The seat looks like it's professionally made. But I suspect you are cheating the proper rowing technique with the seat and handle modifications.
It looks to me that you are rowing "squats" and with a "full back" seat I can imagine you are neglecting to use your lower back muscles so without the seat at the Crash B's the first thing you would notice is loss of balance and lower back pain.

Wijnandt has a Thys rowingbike

http://www.rowingbike.com/main.php

and I assume these modifications are with riding the Thys rowingbike in mind. You can see the Thys rowing bike in action at the above website.

Besides, I think he also rides recumbents, and many recumbent riders including me are afflicted with the need to constantly tinker and modify things. I understand the concept of rowing on wheels instead of water.

http://www.math.msu.edu/~drachman/cycle ... >
There is water near where I live but none clean enough that I would want to go swimming in it, which I understand is the likely outcome of a newbie’s first attempt in the water. On the other hand, there are trails nearby that are excellent for rowing on wheels. If you visit my website about Irish Mails, you will see that my older brother is even nuttier than I am on the subject of rowing on wheels. If you see the picture of me taking a mighty pull on the lever, yes I should hold my back straighter. Usually I do but I was just starting when the camera clicked and hadn't thought about my technique yet.

Byron
The seat looks like a great idea. Since the standard seat is so hard and unforgiving, I find myself leaning back alot in order to preserve my lower back (which otherwise gets irritated and requires me to take breaks from rowing). [FONT=Arial]
Thanks for sharing your design!
