Recently I have been watching TV while erging. I put it on a couple of crates at about eye level just to the left of straight ahead. I am wondering if this might be introducing some unintentional assymetry into my stroke since I am looking off to the left. Would it be better to get a taller stand and put it straight ahead? Or put the TV off to the right every other workout? Listen to the radio instead?<br /><br />bw

Hi,<br />I would set the TV straight in front so that you do not have to turn your head. In case the digital display of the rowing machine is in the way push it down. I row at home. Tv Dvd combo dead even and level with my eye balls.<br />I used to row at work. The hospital gym had the tv in such a postition that I had to look up and to the left. Neck ached like sharp hot pins. Just another reasong that me and mine opted to row at home. Log those miles. What are you watching? Last movie I watched was High School Confidential. My wife likes music a good dvd will motivate her for weeks.

I followed Xeno's advice on his DVD and put a mirror in front of the erg so I can constantly check for symmetry. I never fully appreciated how important symmetry is until I started rowing on water. Dang, if you drop or raise one shoulder just a little bit it totally messes up the blade depths, etc. I agree that if you're not using a mirror then straight ahead is best.<br /><br />I have my TV a little off the side. So I turn my head just a little while switching from watching the guy in the mirror to watching Xeno or Xeno and Lucas and rowing with them on the DVD's. Just turning the head a small amount doesn't affect the set of the boat. <br /><br />Byron

Thanks for the replys. I moved the TV to straight ahead at eye level.<br /><br />I just started erging again after logging about 400km on the water this year. Movies seem to be good for long pieces with steady pace. The regular TV drivel is better for shorter pieces, intervals, etc. (The faster you get to 2000m the sooner you can change the channel.) <br /><br />bw

After several sessions with my chiropractor, I now take the time to move things around to square the erg up with the screen. Putting the living room back together I count as cool-down <br />

I set up speakers, a tv set and a dvd player. I watched a lot of music dvd's and the last month I borrowed a dvd set of the tv series 24. This moment I watch the second season. Don't forget to use the subtitles It's very important to put the tv set right in front of you so you don't have to turn your head all the time, cause that really hurts <img src='http://www.lesweb.nl/row/sandergo.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

I have a tv right in front of my Concept2 but the machine is so noisy that I cant hear anything else <br />Guess I could watch silent movies though

Try wireless headphones? Infrared or Bluetooth. Even wired ones, just so long as you're careful with the routing of the wires.

If I had an erg at home I'd be using speakers.
