Zac,

Stop as much as you like so long as the clock is still ticking. So, if it takes 90 min to row it and you take 5 min break your time is 95 mins.

If you are in reasonable shape, regularly row longer distances say 60 min + and pace it right then should not need breaks.

If though you do need to stop for more than just a few seconds to take on water I would suggest that your base fitness is not really there yet to be attempting a HM. Better to work up to good steady 60 min sessions and the push on to HM.

Neil

Also, remember the monitor shuts off after 4 minutes of inactivity, so limit your breaks to less than 4 min each. Taking breaks, especially for your first long distance rows, is normal. Eventually, you'll be able to make it without breaking, but for now just pick a pace you think you can keep and take breaks whenever you need to.

I'm only a couple of months into rowing and I'm still learning how to pace myself correctly. My conditoning does need to improve as I have never really been committed to any cardio work....always into weights. I have, however become "addicted" to rowing and do it 4-5 times a week, but I am still learning "how" to train.

Thanks for the response!!
