She said she was feeling pretty sick before we did it, but she managed a 7:56. Not bad considering she's erged like 5 or 6 times in her life. She's starting rowing now, who knows how good she can get by the time she heads off to college.

Dang... I row and don't have a 2k much lower than that and wow that's good. She'll probably be good at rowing- or at least erging. Does she swim or something?

She made finals in sectional races a couple of times, but she hates the coach she has now, and is burnt out on it. Hopefully she won't burn out on rowing. I'm helping her until fall rowing season starts, she told me she wants to get down to a 7:45 by then. Knowing her stubborness, she'll get it down there.
The erg is good crosstraining for swimming.
I used to be a swimmer but never had enough power.
Recently I did some 30m sprints in a 50m pool and for the first time I was riding high in the water with enough power to accelerate the stroke all the way to the finish.

Too bad it's 30 years late.
But your sister might profit from erging as cross training.
