So towards the end of the year of school, our coach punished the team because somebody prank called both him and the assistant coach. He made us do 3x2k at 100% pressure, and expected times at or near personal bests. We only had 4 working ergs at the time (4 had gone down in the previous two weeks), so we did it in heats, with about 30 minutes of rest in between each piece.

PB: 6:25.2
My times:
1: 6:27.8
2: 6:31.3
3. 6:27.2

The last one was bad, because I pulled a muscle in my quad with 400 left (I had unknowingly done 2+ hours weights on the legs, including squats, deadlifts, lunges, squat thrusts, and all different sorts of other weights the day before), but still I was pretty happy all things considered.

What my question is, is this: What do you think my personal best could've been if I was only doing a single 2k?

That doesn't seem right to do 3 2k's at full preasure because you can't do that. I'ts not possible to get a pb on all three 2k's you may as well do a 6k and shoot for a pb I don't know but that punishment seems extreme

Man, I would have think you would have seen God in the last 200m of the last one. You should have asked him your question then!

Playing water polo and swimming was a blast, but when the coach had a bad day, the torture workouts really sucked. My college coach once made us do 10 x 50 with the first lap being butterfly, and the second lap being underwater the whole way. If anyone on the team popped up for air on the second lap, the count started over. I don't think we ever made it to 10...and I still remember this 20 years later.

What doesn't kill me...

But 2ks don't scare me nearly as much anymore, so that's a good thing.
Hehehe...this reminds me of a friday morning last year when our eight's coxswain didn't show up. Our coach sent us to the gym at school where there was two ergs, and we did the same workout, but with less rest. The ironic thing was that I was sick and hadn't ever really erg'd up to that point and I hit my PR. But damn I went right to sleep after that one. That's a rough workout. Another one I had that was tough was for a fundraiser we did. The way it worked, people would donate money for each meter we erg'd, and we all had to do like 25k. Well, I had work the day we were doin it, and even though we were supposed to break it into pieces I did a 14k to finish it off and I had to do it hella fast so I could leave in time. That was a rough one too. whoo, good times
