Training

Post by [old] abbass31 » June 9th, 2005, 8:28 am

I did my first 8x 500m yesterday. I was following splits from the wolverine plan and I found that I had a lot left on my 8th interval. I rowed 6 secs faster then my goal split of 1:40. I was doing 2:30 rest between each piece and was wondering if when I start my 500s should I let the flywheel come to a full stop. It's moving a bit when I start so it's easier to get my first pull going. I haven't done much active recovery before so I'm not sure if this is considered cheating or not. What would be more optimal for my training purposes. Also should I adjust my goal split a few seconds so I don't have so much left on my last interval.

Any help would be appreciated.

Having the flywheel spinning as you start your next interval makes life a bit easier, so your average splits will be slightly faster than if you had to begin from a dead stop. I don't know if that's "cheating." If you start from a standstill, you won't have the slight variable produced by a flywheel that is likely to be turning at a different rate from interval to interval.

If you can go 6 sec/500 faster on the final interval, then it sounds like you're ready to increase your pace for this work out.

Tom
