I joined the forums and rankings for the first time during the 2005 season which appears to be ending at the end of April. After April,I guess the logbook carries on as normal but I assume that any previous personal bests just disappear? Could this mean my next pretty average 2000 metre ranking theoretically could be the best in the World when posted?
Also why does the season have to end in April (I see no significance in either North or Southern hemispheres).

And you'll get a brand new log to fill in for the upcoming year of fun and frolic.

You're right, the ranking list is wiped clean for the new erg year. This means the first posters go to the head of the rankings, at least temporarily. If you have a mind to try to lead, figure out server time and try to post a result at 12:00:01 AM on 1 May.

You'll have to ask one of the C2 minions why the erg year is what it is. My offhand guess would be that they originally got the on-line rankings up and running on May 1 and thereby established binding precedent.....
