Erg Movement

I train on both the C and D model rowers and was curious about movement on the erg. I notice on the C the erg never seems to move, but the D moves about 1/8 inches forward every stroke. The harder I pull, the faster the model D moves forward. Technically, I am moving the "boat" the wrong way if the erg is moving forward, rather than back. Any comments or suggestions on what I might eb doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Cool Signature!

The Ergs will tend to move a bit on slippery surfaces. 1/8th inch per stroke is not really an indicator of "moving the boat the wrong way", unless it is happening before you actually start your drive, by crashing into the frontstops. It may just be that you are pushing it back before the clutch engages and you have anythign to pull against, far better than taking the catch with your arms bending or opening the back to early.

It has been suggested that turning the feet of the erg so that teh smooth side is down may help, but putting something that is just a bit stickier under the feet may also fix the issue.

Thanks for the info. My school's team doees train on concrete, so it does make for a slippery surface. I think my stroke definately needs work, but I do believe that the model D's move more than the model C's.

I made my signature one day when I was bored. Glad you like it

Gregg,

A lot of people wrap duct tape around the legs, then flip the same piece of tape around and wrap it a couple more times with the sticky side out.

I have painted smooth concrete in the garage and just doing the front legs this way helps a lot.

How did you get the design and colors in your signature file?

Cheers.
