Training

Post by [old] blue87 » February 9th, 2005, 7:05 am

Hey people, Iv been worried recently. I have done lots and lots of training, and sometimes at rest my heart beats really fast as if it thinks I am suddenly training. This happens for about 10 seconds and about once every week.

one of my training partners has the same problem. Is it because my heart is used to training so it speeds up randomly?? anyone know? or does anyone have the same problem?

Thanx,

Martin

It would be more helpful to know how fast "really fast" is. This could be nothing, but it could also be a real problem. What is the rate when you say it is really fast, and is it regular or irregular?

Please consider doing this promptly.

i'm sure you should see a doc. i get this and it started when i was about 12, just after i started ballet training (3 hours a day) - so maybe its onset it is related to intensive physical work. it doesn't happen to me so often now.

my heart rate is about 180 when this happens and i can feel my pulse thumping in my throat and see my chest moving (although mine is probably more wobbly than yours!). if it continues for more than a minute or two i feel faint and lightheaded. when i was in my teens/early twenties, these episodes could last up to 20 minutes. i have found a way to bring my heart rate under control.... take slow, deep breaths - it usually works for me in about 15 seconds. sometimes it needs a bit more encouragement and then i sit down and lower my head (as for fainting) and continue with the deep breathing.

your attacks are short, but should they get any longer i hope this will help for you.

but go to see a doc - you will probably be monitored for 24 hours or so with a portable ecg thingummy.

jane

Your heart rate can change quite a bit just by what you are thinking about. I noticed this during recovery rows with a heart rate monitor. Recovery rows are rather slow and boreing, so I would start day dreaming about BIRC or CRASH-B. This caused my heart rate to jump 15 to 20 bpm. Taking my mind off the races brought the rate back to normal.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
