<br>I think what many folks would advocate is holding consistent splits throughout the piece and then go full tilt in the sprint. Some might also advocate a racing start and 20 strokes at high intensity at the start. There tends to be a lot more variety for suggestions on race plans on the water. <br><br>There are some arguments that consistent splits or negative splits (starting slightly slower than your intended average split and increasing speed over the race) are better approaches for managing lactic acid build up. Also, accelerations beyond the best splits you can maintain are inefficient since they require an exponential increase in energy output. <br><br>Anyway, theory is nice but just trying some races may be the best teacher. <br><br>Have fun and good luck!
