The ratio that you all speak of. Am I right when saying that a 33% ratio would mean that for a stroke time of 1.0 sec. Drive would equal 0.33sec, and recovery 0.66sec?

And Ive heard a few different figures quoted for what it should be. Is there a standard to go by?

How does a person determine their ratio?

How does a person "fix" their ratio?

Thanks

For a given person, the drive/recovery can be fixed with reasonable accuracy by keeping the distance per stroke constant. Keep an eye on "Meters" on your PMx and try to do the same distance for each stroke, regardless of your pace.

I use the following definition of ratio: time for recovery divided by time for stroke. For me this is around 1.25 (shown by Ergmonitor).

Note that is not easy to define where the stroke ends and the recovery starts. That may lead to "heated" discussions when trying to find the ideal stroke/recovery ratio by analyzing video's of world class rowers.

Tom

O gosh, ratios and ratio shifts... *fun fun* lol... anyway I've heard 1 to 3... seems a little high but that's usually for a ratio shift...

4 erging... keep the stroke rate on the low and the power on the high for practice... helps a lot... but it's no fun anyway, that's for the slower stuf... in terms of normal, just go by the senses, if u feel the jerk u'r rushing big time...

Anyway that's how I see it

~*Sara*~
