Hi

Just wondering if anyone has been able to increase their performance so that they now can hold for 10k, the pace they maxed a 2k at when beginning to erg.

(And I don't mean artificial improvement as in terms of not daring to go max that first 2k and ending with a 10min time)

Let us know, it would be a great motivator!

Hi Guys,
my first real try for a 2k was 7.40 or 1.55 pace, and I thought I was going to expire!

I can now do the 1/2M at 1.53.2, and my pace for the 10k is 1.50.2, soon to be revised down into the 1.40's I hope.

It just show's you that anything is possible, I hope.

My first hard 2K was 7:20ish (1:50) made harder by rowing like a muppet and on damper 10 but I didn't know any better, my 10K PB is now 1:46.8. I'm also 15Kg lighter.

My first ever 2K time was 8:15.4 (2:03.8) this was done on max drag (I knew no better) it totally finished me off. I was racing the wife who is a 30-39Lwt and she beat me. That’s how I got into rowing, I said I would train and will beat 7:30.

2K PB pace is now 1:36.0 (6:24.0) and 10K is 1:47.1 (don’t do many of those).
The wife has improved too, 5th at BIRC and 6th WIRC 2004. and former British Record holder for the mile (1609m).

Sir Pirate
My first race was in January 2003 about 2 months after i had started training proper and i managed 6:34.6 in an all out effort. This is 1:39.1 pace, which I should be able to acheive for my next 5k time trial where i will be aiming for sub 16:30 (currently 1:39.6 Av)

Going to be a lot longer til i hit that for 10k pace though!

Hi

My first 2k was four months ago and took me about 9.20. Like most people my drag factor was maximum out of ignorance. Two weeks ago, after a lot of training, I managed 7.35. The drag factor then was about 140. I'd like to get below 7.30. I don't really try to do personal bests so I'm not sure what I could do for 10k. I'm not good enough yet. Doing a 7.35 2k nearly killed me, and I must admit I swore never to do another 2k ever again. In fact I did a lot of swearing that day.

Prufrock

My first 2k test was May 2003 with a time of 7.15 - 1.48.8. Current 10k PB is 34.49.8 - 1.44.5.

Latest 2k - 6.24.2 - 1.36.0 don't think will be doing 10k at 1.36 though

My first 2K test, 3.5 years ago was 8:18. I don't count that: first strokes after 10 years, no warming up, no notice of my own weakness, etc

Two month later, after about 20 training sessions, first serious test: 7:54, pace 1:58.5

2 years later, a few month ago: 10K in 39:11, pace 1:57.5

Tom

Good question. Going back through my logbooks I found that my first ever 2k trial was 8:26, a 2:06.5 pace (on Sept. 15, 1999), and I was totally trashed. I took me nearly five months to be able to even finish a 10km due to butt pain, but when I did it was at 2:04.3 pace.

My current 10km PB stands at 1:54.3 pace, done on March 28, 2003. That is the pace of what my 2km PB had been as of October 24, 1999.

Rick

First 2K was 7:25 (ave 1:51,2) in january 2003, not close to that average for 10K, my PB is 38:13 (ave 1:54,6). Maybe another year of training (without minor health problems like this year) to get close to my initial average for 2K.

First 2500m, after two weeks of training in 1993, was 10:14.1 / 2:03.5 pace.

Two weeks after that I did 9:53.9 / 1:58.5 pace.

Current half marathon is 1:57.8 pace.

My 2k is 1:51 pace, which I probably won't ever do for a 10k.

I'm pretty close. My first 2k was a 151, and nowadays my 10K PR is around a 153.
After only about 4 months of serious training. Hoping to drop my 2k into the 137 range and my 10k below 150 before too long.....

Improved my 10K PB today, so slowly getting close to that initial 2K pace of 1:51,6, but still 2 seconds average to go.
