I made a discovery today that others may find useful.

Well to begin with I've managed to contract shingles. Very painful disease and they tend to make rowing difficult because the rash is on my left side, back and chest. So I've only been rowing slowly and carefully. I was kind of hoping that rowing would generate some endorphins to at least get some temporary relief but no such luck until today.

Today I signed up for an easy online 6K. We started out slow enough but then Graeme started playing around and I started chasing him. Hmm the pain subsided a bit. Before you know it we were racing to every 500 meter mark using the new broadcast view in RowPro. Somewhere between 3K and 4K I was completely pain free and that lasted for 20-25 minutes after the row ended. Seems like I just had to row harder (faster than 1:52 pace) than I've been rowing to get the full effect of the endorphins. Rowing is a good way get some real relief from the pain and a bit of exercise too.

Now if I could only bottle it I'm sure I could sell it.

Frank

Patent Pending... You'd be a billionaire. :)

That broadcast view is nice for those kind of games. Ernie and I were playing at that the other day too. It was unspoken, but I'd kindof start sprinting 100m before every 500m mark and he'd give me a head start and then race me to the line, then we'd row easy until the next one. Lots of good fun.

- Krysta

Mmm, endorphins, my favorite. :D
I've noticed this as well. When I sprain an ankle it inevitably hurts for the first little bit that I work out (especially if it's cold!) then I won't notice it until a while after my workout is done. Can be nice relief sometimes.
Krysta, I'm scared, you made LW! :)
Time to go erg some more!

Heather

But you give me something to aim for. :)

Today a rowed a 10K workout by myself at a real easy pace (2:06) and the endorphins kicked in right on schedule between 3K and 4K. Don't know they weren't working before but maybe that was an effect of some of the medication that I've been taking.

I've also decided not to try and bottle the endorphins. I'm just going to be selfish and keep them all myself. :P
