I'm new to rowing and relatively new to the site, and I was wondering if there are any folks here from Arizona. I'm in the East Valley area, in Chandler, nearer Phoenix than Flagstaff or Tuscon.

Hope to find some locals .

Michele

A couple of options. Rio Salado, Tempe Community rowing and Arizona Outlaws. Dwayne, are you and Ted Noyes Outlaws or Rio Salado? Michele, Dwayne will have all the good info. I have rowed with the Arizona bunch on many occasions. Good stuff, nice venue, Lake Tempe. dennish

Does it mean my small efforts count toward the greater total? That's what I gather.

As far as water rowing, I haven't done any here in AZ, but Tempe Lake has rowing clubs I think.

Thanks for the heads up.

Michele

Dennish seemed to hint that you do water rowing also. Where is that?

Michele

Pretty much all the water rowing is done on Tempe Town Lake. Like Dennis said, there are a few clubs around. Rio Salado, City of Tempe, Arizona Outlaws. All have their pluses and minuses. So if you want to get into the water side of things, you have some choices.

Dwayne

Michele, I have rowed with Rio, and currently I row with the Outlaws when I have the chance. Ted and Paula Paxton and Cathy Moum are great folks and really solid rowers. Ted is a great doubles partner. And he and Cathy posted a better time than he and I at Masters nationals a couple of years ago. Ouch. Get in touch with them and get on the water, you'll truly enjoy it and you have a great place to row. I may try and get down there for the desert sprints, as a referee!!. Welcome aboard. dennis

Cool! My sister, husband and their 4 kids lived in Flag for about 3 years. I loved going to visit them--especially during the summer. Great area. Now they live in Gilbert, and we see them a lot more, but now don't have a good excuse to go up there. And, I must admit I love the kids a little more than the city .

Michele

p.s.: You could write a book, "The Littlest Erger." You already have a very photogenic cover model.

Started rowing last month as the constant air pollution is not allowing me outside to exercise or kayak (we'd go out and paddle around TTL usually, but now my asthma won't let me). I'd love to get out of this pollution, but hubby is a teacher and stuck here in the Valley until retirement.
Teddi

I can see issues with using an inhaler while in a kayak or towing oxygen... Have you tried kayaking at Lake Powell or in Colorado?

Thanks for checking in here.

Michele

Teddi and Michele -

Why don't you affiliate with Arizona Outlaws for your meters? We've got over 60 on the team, and are getting close to catching MIT for 11th place. If we had Dwayne's meters, we could really be a contender!

Good luck and have fun.

Dave G
I think I'll stick with the Ducks for now. But what the future holds, I don't know... I'll secretly root for the home team too .

Michele
I'm located north of the 101 off of Cave Creek Road. I'd be happy to affiliate my meters with the Outlaws if someone will tell me how to do it. There isn't a lot of meters, but I'm happy to do it. Maybe 350,000. If you want them just keep in mind that I'm not computer literate, so take it slow.

Yoda
