Before I ever race, whether it be on the water or on the erg, I have a certain pre-race schedule, involving about 20 minutes of music listening. Before every race I listen to the same three songs on my mp3 player last, before I head to the water.

It now seems my body knows what these songs mean! The butterflies hit the stomach, my heart rate jumps up a few beats and all of a sudden Im in racing mode! It's the best feeling and everyone should find something that has this sort of effect on them before a race. No two people are the same, so music might not be the way, but getting into a routine is key!

Everyone else find this?

Also now when I'm walking down the street and one of my amp up songs comes on, my body goes into race mode! A crazy side effect that I find quite funny!

What are your three songs? I do something similar. I don't do the pre-race listen (good idea there!) but just when I'm about to start a race on the erg, I put on "Radiohead" The Bends. It has the same effect on me, It's like an instant shot of endorphins! With all the "pain" that rowing brings on, you'd think we'd end up hating these songs .

I know what you mean! Theres a few songs that seem to get stuck on repeat at the club whenever we're doing long ergs. Those ones almost have the opposite effect when I hear them on the radio...I feel like its time to hit the sack!

The three pre-race ones are all linkin park songs;

Jay z and LP: numb
Jay z and LP: 99 problems
and LP: P5hing away, live

Its all bout the rhythm that suits you best
