There are two rowing machines at our local gym. One of them has been vibrating badly for a couple of weeks. I keep advising the management that there is some kind of problem. They have vacuumed it, lubed it, and thought they checked screws for tightness but it is still vibrating. The pm3 and the flywheel area seem to vibrate even more the longer that you row. They have a heavy rubber mat under the front end but that is the same as with the other erg which doesn't vibrate.

Does anyone know what the source of the problem might be?

Ellen

I have no idea but the topic certainly caught my eye. Have you tried putting in more quarters? dennis

Nice one Dennis!

When they were vacuuming out the cage they might have knocked one of the balancing weights off the flywheel, this won't be easy to solve and should be worse at high rpm's than it is at low, and happen all the time.

If the flywheel vibration is happening while on the recovery (and not so much when just coasting without handle movement), it could be a bent axel. This is easy to fixe by getting a new straight axel from C2.

If you can talk with C2 while right at the Erg and go through a few diagnostic exercises, they will likely be able to narrow it down to what needs to be done.

Same thing happened with my erg at home. The axle which goes through the center of the flywheel was ever so slightly bent. Replaced the axle and the flywheel immediately stopped vibrating. This not a huge job but more involved than vacuuming the flywheel cage, for example.

Ellen- Certainly have someone from the gym give us a call and ask for tech support. No doubt it's either a bent axle, bad bearing or out of balance flywheel. Diagnosing can be a little tricky so if the call can be made from the machine as Paul suggests that would be best.........JonW

Thanks for the info. I have passed all this information on to the local Family Y gym. Hopefully with Concept2's help, they can figure it out.

Ellen
