I have just started getting into erging. I had rowed on the water in college for 4 years. During that time the erg was the only way to train during the winter, but it was the bane of our existence. No one really enjoyed it, nothing could replace the feeling of being on the water. Erging isn't the same as: moving in rhythm, with 7 other guys, at full pressure, neck in neck with 5 other boats, down a 2000 meter course. The pain was worth it, the experience was more important than the result. Those of you that row on the water can see where I am coming from.

Anyway, I graduated a few years back and have been doing some running, swimming, and weight lifting, but I wasn't enjoying it and it wasn't enough. I just decided that the only way for me to get back in shape, after these years off, is to get back on the erg. There is no exercise like rowing, it helped me shed 65 pounds back in college, and works the whole body.

Erging isn't the same as being on the water, but all of us that row/erg have it in our blood. This is a rather small group of people, but those that do it are die hard and can't get enough. Our kids do it, our whole family comes to races, half of our friends do it, and the other half don't understand it at all.

I was wondering if there is any interest in creating a virtual team for ex-water rowers? What about for ex-collegiate rowers? For current water rowers? I am interested in creating a group where all members have experienced rowing on the water and not just a rowing machine. We could log any meters on the water, if we still get the chance, as well as those on the erg. Maybe if this works out we could even get together and take out some boats, or enter a few club races.

Let me know what type of interest there is and we will see what can be done. Sorry for the length, had trouble getting that out. Good luck on the ergs. Keep pushing.
