That shot where the camera boat swings all the way round the four is stunning.

Overall, I prefer the first one also.

The last minute or so of the second one as they are racing is great.

Jim

I thought they were both very good. I liked the first as it was on but then I think I preferred the 2nd as I watched it

Unfair advantage having that guy with the Mohican in the eight. I must have been spent all his childhood on the river and then back to the teepee at night

J

The seniors from my school simcoe raced you guys from glebe. I remember watching that race and it was tight from 3rd to 4th. Our seniors lost to 4th by like half of a second or something, it was real close. h*** that whole race was pretty damn tight. Hey that video of the people in the pairs at the end that was Junior A Mens Pair at henley right? Not st.catharines invite or cora? I remember watching on tv here on a local channel seeing a brief second of a pair crashing into another and someone smashing on the rigger.

Anycase, nice movies.

Thank you for posting the interesting videos.

I liked video #2 better.

The women at 3:56 of the 2nd video had the smoothest timing and rhythm of either of them.

The coach in the first video said to "sacrifice everything that compromises your ability to generate speed in your boat".

I like that idea.

The team, however, was using a very short drive time and long recovery, thus their timing and rhythm were way off. The would obviously go faster with less energy by smoothing this out, spending more time with focus on the drive portion of their strokes.

John, Have you ever rowed on the water? I think you need to understand the idea of check that is caused by a fast recovery and a long drive. What you want is ratio, something around the lines of two to one on the recovery to drive time. Before you talk about water rowing, gain some experience on it, please.

Neb,

I would probably do very well on the water but have no interest in it.

Regardless, the women's team in the video is doing exactly what I said.

They have a very nice rhythm and timing, as do top international teams like the Danes and Italians.

heh... their reach is about 3 feet, ive never seen a crew row so short. technically they are not sound, however they pull like men

the stroke seat of that 4+ can backsquat more than me... no joke.

rate 35... that pair race was junior a at henley... the bowman taylor pluzak was being outpulled and basically had died... almost immediately after they crashed he just fainted onto the bow. a friend had to sub in from the grand stands.

as for the 8+... yes that was the glebe boat, its funny you reconize 7 seat. i was in 3 seat.

John,

If you were to ever row on the water you would quickly find out that the indoor rowing machine is not quite analagous to a shell. There are so many other factors that just aren't present inside, on a balanced surface, on a rowing machine. I would implore you to experience water rowing first, with adequate coaching and experience, before you make any presumptions based on your, as we know, limited quasi-knowledge of indoor rowing.

john, if the ratio were any less than 1.5:1 on a steady state piece then the boat check is most likely going to be terrible. i't would be easier to follow, but the boat speed will be effected badly. it makes a boat phenomenally more efficient in the long run if the legs come up to the catch as slow and steady as humanly possible. unlike the ergo where this factor is never taken to account.
