I have taken up rowing at a health and fitness club and have been going about a month .

I have trouble measuring metres on the machines monitor and was wondering if a reasonable estimate of metres rowed can be had by using time and strokes / minute.

I am 66 years old and trying to lose about 15 kg

I am now doing thirty minutes at 25 spm five days a week with another 30 minutes of weight training .

No weight loss as yet but can tighten my belt a couple of notches so things are happening .

No, meters cannot be measured by knowing time and spm.

If you know pace and time, then yes.

Why don't the machines show the meters?

Hello John

" If you know pace and time, then yes ".----- Please explain ?

There seems to be a problem that occurs randomly . The other morning I started up and there was no indication at all on the display . I tried the on and off button and still nothing so I carried on watching a clock on the wall . There is only the one machine.

The manager came by after a bit and I mentioned the problem and he touched the buttons and things took off.

The only parts of the display I get most seem to be time , spm , and I think the other one is watts . I will look for the instructions to use this display again and see if I can get it going in the morning . Perhaps I am doing something wrong .

First convert the watts to pace. Then, the pace is how long it takes you to go 500 meters.

Are there any empty spaces on the monitor? Have you pressed the big bar on the right to switch to the other modalities? If there are empty spaces, then perhaps cleaning the contacts inside the monitor would be helpful.
Thanks John and Roger

I just got back from the club and thought I would look for an answer here . The display started up OK this morning . It just had to be reset to read metres . Other days it just did not start at all .

The link to the UK site will be a great help . I will write out the procedure and follow it tomorrow morning and see what the results are and let you know .

Dirty connections may also be a problem so I will let the manager know if this continues .

Thanks for the help guys . Its much appreciated .

don't know if this helps - i find i must press the 'menu/back' button to force the end of a session. (i lost a few thousand meters before i figured that out.)

i had got used to having the display power itself down and close the session after two or three minutes of non-activity. however with the computer turned on, the display receives power through the usb cable.

at the end of a session, after two or three minutes the computer locks; the display continues to show the end-of-session data rather than blanking. i must press 'menu/back' to allow either reading the card thru the computer usb connection, or allow start of a new session.

as to units, just mash 'change units' to cycle through meters-watts-calories.
Maybe the manager changed batteries as Dickie has suggested or did some other maintenance on it . He is aware of the problems I have run across . If others are using this machine they may have talked to him about it as well .
I do thirty minutes a day now and will try bumping that up to 40 minutes by the end of the week
Its a great machine and I am enjoying using it . Hopefully I can exceed a million metres someday.
I will be back at it in the morning ( Monday ) and hopefully things will be OK .

Thanks for the suggestions .
