Hello rowing enthusiasts! I am going to purchase either a used model C or a Tunturi R701 over the weekend...can you help me decide? I don't know much about either except that they are both commmercial level units. I have heard great things about both, however, your imput is of great importance to me.
The model C has wear on the wind guard, frame scratches and a broken monitor that can be replaced for $90. The unit is also missing a lock that goes on the bottom that can be replaced for $9. The dealer is selling it for $300 since it is fully operational. Does it sound like a good deal? should I go for it?
The tunturi also has a broken monitor that is over $200.00 to replace and it is being sold for $200.00 by a private seller.
HELP! thank you. Maria

The Tunturi is super quiet, but I was not happy with the monitor and the thing also weighs a ton, very difficult to move. Great quality and durability, but I have a tough time recommending it over a C2.

If the Model C is perfect from a mechanical standpoint, it seems the choice, however an aggressive attempt should be made at reducing the price a bit. The PM3 + Mod D handle is $200, and pretty much the way to go if spending money on a PM anyhow. Maybe get them to split the difference on the additional $110 (200-90) and Sell you the machine for $245. THen you get the PM3, Handle, Locking Cam, adn are into it for $455 or so (whatever tax you pay on $245), About $400 under the price of a New Mod D delivered to your door in the USA.

I've found several Model C's in Mint condition for $400-500 over the years, a good value IMO.

I had to only replace the seat rollers on mine but I did upgrade to the PM3 eventhough my PM2 was still working. There is a full rebuild kit for $40 for the model C if there are more worn parts. Make sure the handle returns well to the monitor bracket so you know the shock cord is operating well. Check to make sure the chain is in good condition, you will probably need to oil it. Only basic skills are needed to replace most parts on the Concept 2 and they are not expensive to buy.

I say go with the model C but that is only my biased opinion. I don't know anything about the Tunturi but I love my model C. Concept 2 is a great company and I love their customer service. Plus you have the support and help from the great community here.

Good luck with your purchase.
Steve

Wow guys thank you so much for the prompt responses! You can't imagine how much your advice means to me since I have such limited information.
Anyway, the Model C wins! the community here is great and there is nothing like having great customer service from a company. Clearly concept 2 works very hard to keep their fine corporate reputation.

thanks again, Maria
