Rowpro Question

I am enjoying the graphics and getting to know the software, but have yet to go online with RowPro. However, I have set up two different training plans providing the information requested, and the plans they have me rowing are totally unchallenging. I am used to rowing a min. of 5K with 10K being the norm, and doing both interval and steady state rows. I provided them with info which indicated this, but the programs generated do not reflect this info IMO. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Do the rest of you manually log your rows, or create custom rows, to create your own training plans? I am trying to improve my 2K times, while still maintaining the endurance I have built up with my distance rows this season (I completed the 200,000 meter holiday challenge)

I would like to hear from others who are using RowPro to improve their technique and times, and not just row online.

Thanks.

I entered all my information, including that I rowed over 10 million meters, race very frequently and won at BIRC a few years ago. I got back a training plan that is easier than my warm ups. So I do not use the training plan with RowPro.

Regards,

Paul Flack

Okay...so my new problem...

When adding custom rows and using the just row feature, to row one of my custom rows, the damn box indicating my row is completed appears on my screen, obscuring all of the graphics way before my row is complete. I put a call into RowPro, but haven't heard back yet. Do you have any suggestions or advice? I am not so much interested in internet racing as I am improving my technique and times. I had hoped to use RowPro for this purpose.

Thanks.

I am not sure what you are doing. The "just row" feature is if you are warming up and don't care how fast you are going or want to stop and stretch a few times during the warm up.

If you want to improve times, pick a distance that you want to improve. Pick "Set distance" from the menu in "session". Then choose "regatta" and you can row against your previously saved rows at that distance or a pace boat.

Regards,

Paul Flack

I don't see a "just row" custom feature. You might want to give us a few more details. Also, post your questions on the Forum at the digitalrowing web site. http://www.digitalrowing.com/default.as ... 305
Thanks Paul for posting a response.

The reason I tried to row using a custom row was because I found I got the sreen and message indicating my row was completed before I had actually completed my 2K training plan row when )I had only rowed 1500 meters)

I created a custom 30 minute steady state row with a target HR and 500m split pace, and again received the same interruption prior to completing my row. I will try rowing with a pace boat next time, but would like to be able to row using the custom row feature and post back after I see how it goes.

I am mystified as to why it would say I was done rowing 2000 meters after only rowing 1500. I checked to make sure I didn't make any typos, and it seems every row I attempt gets interrupted in this fashion-argh!!!

I may just have to go back to rowing with the monitor for feedback, the MP3 player for motivation, and using the concept2 website to log my progress:)
Pam,

I have had occassional frustrating experiences when rowpro decides I have completed the piece too early ........... not often but it happens. I just put up with it.

I find the training programs to be fairly easy - however after having a good read through the recent UT2 thread am prepared to have another look at them.

I prefer to use custom pieces and set pieces over just row because then it records things in more detail and you can get a logical report from the database.

Havent used it for internet racing yet

Bill

I have tried RowPro 4 different times now, using different rows and different graphics to try and indentify where the problem is. Every single time, the graphics have frozen, and the software has stopped communicating with my monitor between 2-3 minutes into my rows.

I am guessing it is a problem with my notebook's ability to run the graphics while rowing??? I have emailed them, and we'll see what adjustments, if any, I can make to make the software work with the equipment I have.

Hi Pam,

You don't say which version of RP you are using but I would suggest trying Beta 5 if you haven't as I know it has some graphics fixes. RP depends heavily on the graphics capability of your computer and notebooks can be problematic when it comes to graphics applications.

As for RP itself, I have been using for almost 2 years and really like the training plans. They are a good way to get variety into your workouts and you can adjust them from easy to hard depending on the levels that you pick.

Frank
I have a brand new notebook with a DVD player/burner, with a good amount of memory and a fast HD. I just bought RowPro and have the new 1.7 version. I suspect it is a problems with the graphics. I'll post what i find out after I hear back from technical support at RowPro.

Regarding the RowPro training plan being "too easy": I found this to be the case, too.

In fact, I found it very challenging to keep my heart rate so low.

However, once I calculated my likely Anaerobic Threshold heart rate (using the heart rate reserve calculations that come with the American version of the Concept II training manual) and entered that into the customization settings, suddenly all of the training ranges for the workouts made a lot more sense.

I enjoy the training program, now.

Hope that helps!

Abe

It turns out all I needed to do was replace the serial port adaptor I was using, for one that was "high speed." Here is the link, in case anyone else ever has the same problem getting started :

http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA19HS/

Pete at RowPro was most helpful. He said they have had quite a few problems with other serial ports adaptors.
