For most people here on the forum I would think that they still believe they can go faster over 2k.

If so how fast do you actually think you can go, what time do you see as your 'nirvana', what time will you peak at and then bask in it's glory as your slowly decline with age?

For those who have seen their halcyon day, what was it and how do you compare now?

For me I would think somewhere between 6:15 and 6:17 within the next 2 years if I can stay healthy.

I really don't know, I feel about 70% fit now and reckon I can do a 6.38 now. By BIRC, I will be at 6.27 and 85% fit, then I will try to get to 6.19 by BIRC 2005, I think at the extreme's of my Dreams I can do a 6.10.

Time will tell and it will be an interesting journey to find out.

Sub 6:30 would be fine with me, I have given myself 3 years to achieve it.

best ever, 6:33 when I was 50, and I most likely will never see that again, just passed 54. Currently 6:35-6:39 at sea level, which is once a year. At altitude, I live at 7800 ft. in the mountains west of Denver, it's more like 6:45-6:50. I'd like to stay steady at that but have been moving on to other challenges, currrently on a cycling team and doing some team boats for Masters Nationals, so there is not as much time to put into erging. All I have is a very small field of friends to base a conclusion on, but it seems that somewhere around 50, depending on when you started, how active you've been throughout your life and too many other variable to ponder, the decline sets in. But there are nearly as many exceptions to that as there are adherents, notably Rick Bayko who at 56 is still getting better and Chris Bertram who only did his first race a 50 and is still getting better. Sorry, did I just muddy the water or what. dennish

Will be sub 6:20 at B.I.R.C 2004 (6:24.0 at the moment). Aim for sub 6:15 at B.I.R.C 2005 then aim for sub 6:10 for B.I.R.C 2006, don't know after that, will be as old as Dwayne Adams by then, so lets say 5:46

Sir Pirate

It took three years of good training for me to get to my best time of 6:22. I was lucky that I was 45 years old and at the "right end" of the age class for BIRC 2001. I was able to pull another 6:22 at the US Indoor team trials the following year. I keep dreaming of going under 6:20, but I keep getting older instead of faster. The learning curve has ended and the aging curve has taken over. Hopefully, I can still row under 6:30 when I turn 50 in two more years.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Only been erging 18 months...and currently at 6.29.1....

would hope for sub...6.25.0 this year, and eventually hopefully get down to
6.20 in the long term....

The problem is keeping myself at lightweight, as its 3/4 of a stone below my natural weight, so the times will come down, but my weight may go up!

Current best is 6:49.
At this point in training, I'm probably no better than 6:56.
BIRC '04 go sub 6:40
WIRC '05 go sub 6:35
After that, I'd dream of getting into the 6:20's (even 6:29.9 would count).
Figure I've got 5 years to reach that peak before the age decline catches up.
