Just looking through the Rankings as one tends to do these days as a pleasant diversion from reading about Dwayne, Chad and Ranger and I stumbled across this record.

Woman's Marathon Rankings 2006

Miriam Basco 23 yrs old 55k 2:25:03 on 1/02/06.

This is over two minutes faster than Dwayne Adams Male Marathon Record of 2:27:48.

Ind_V next to it.

Surely the greatest ERG performance of all time time.

Chris

Looks like C2 should take a second look at this, otherwise IND_V becomes farcical.

I believe that SOMEONE rowed that time--it just wasn't a light weight female. Maybe her boyfriend?

I certainly hope nobody else thought that was the case.

Your point about extending the boundaries of human capability is quite relevant especially in Miriam's case.

At the moment she is only 55kg.

If she was able to get sponsorship, say from McDonald's this would enable her to move quickly into the heavyweight category.

Put another 15kg on her frame and I doubt even a combined team comprising Graham, Dwayne, Ranger and Andreas combined would be able to match her.

Regards,
Chris

Typo with an IND_V?
I think the verification code and the IND_V code is a good thing in that it prevents
typos when entering the rankings. But I don't believe that it establishes a
legitimate row. All it says is that somehow the time that is entered in the
rankings actually appeared on your rower. How it got there is anybody's
guess. Perhaps that marathon time was a team row of some sort with
several rowers participating, and then the final time was entered into the
rankings by an individual?

Steve
Actually, I believe (C2 can correct me if I'm wrong) you can get "IND_V" classification w/o using a PM3 - just submitting the time and witness testimony to C2 will allow for an entry to get ranked w/ IND_V status.

Now, the fact that a clearly bogus (or typographical) time was accepted and verified by C2 is, well...

Chris,

Miriam Basco's being only 55 kg makes her time even more outstanding.

Another possibility occurred to me...

Perhaps this wasn't a rowing marathon. Maybe the time was for a running
marathon. A 23 year old, 55kg, woman marathon runner seems about
right. The 2:25:03 time would be an excellent time as well (but I don't
believe a world record).

Perhaps her result was just entered in the wrong log? I don't see
her in any of the other rowing rankings.
