Extend the challenge to when the big Oar drops New Years Eve.
Limit the official meters entered each day to 15k. (but have official/unofficial totals)

The main object of the HC is to keep rowers rowing on a routine.
The extension is to work off some of that holiday cheer and hopefully continue into the new year.

The daily limit would keep the once a year rowing egoist in check.
Everyone would be in the same class for the first 14 days.
I've seen in the past where a rower will do all their meters in the first day or two and never row again.
Daily mega rowers are going to do their meters anyway, so the HC is a minor perk for them.
Lift the daily limit on December 25th and let the rowers go wild.
Here's an idea.

Limit the holiday challenge to bgood and eliminate everyone else.

If you want to do a HM or even a FM then good luck to you.

Extending until New Year is OK but I think it is fine as it currently stands

They would have to change the name and eliminate the word Challenge under those guidelines!

My poor old body can't take erging on consecutive days. So I do longer slow sessions every other day.

If you are going to sort it all all out by max meters/day and requiring us to erg on more days, then us old ladies want our own set of rules.

grams

I think it's important to have the variety--shorter rows to build speed and longer rows for endurance. And because of work, holiday preparations, etc., I can't row every day either.

Before the HC, I was aiming for 40-50k/week as it was, but sometimes I'd do 10k in the a.m. and another 10k in the p.m. Plus, what if someone got a cold or the flu in the middle somewhere? Gotta row when life permits it!

--jen, gettin' to be an old lady, and you ain't there yet either, grams!!

Seems like a good challenge to me. Sure there are mega rowers out there but if the idea behind the challenge is to get more people on their ergs then I'm sure it works. I would imagine the challenge doesn't really matter to those who row consistently every day, putting in high mileage. I find it both challenging and motivating. Sometimes its just too difficult to stay on track with the erg workouts but the holiday challenge provides an incentive for one month of the year. I see no reason to change this challenge.

I guess I didn't make myself clear? I'm saying extend the HC a week to New Years Eve.
This would help anyone that doesn't row every day or who is away for a week or so.

I only suggested the daily meter limit to keep those rowers who like to finish the HC in the first few days rowing longer.
So scratch this part because it would apply to only a few rowers.
The HC isn't a race it's a personal challenge, you don't get a bigger prize for being first to complete it.

The real award should go to all those rowers who do their meters at the gym. That has got to be a real personal achievement.
Having two ergs at home I can row any time. The only problem is doing it.
