Graham was absolutely amazing yesterday. He looked so controlled, calm, focused and efficient in his rowing. He went out fast, maintained a good pace and just held off the competition. Just enough (well a little bit more than just enough really) to do what he had to do and that was retain his Open Championship title.

Simply fantastic!!

(Hat off to Jamie Shroeder too to be fair, he was awesome too).

I was standing about 20 ft away from Graham B through this and he looked a class act right from the start. His rhythm was smooth and his stroking was like a metronome.

Jamie S was something else. It would be a very interesting race to see those two together in the front row next year.

A great day with a great atmosphere. Roll on 2006!

Also worth mentioning that the MAD Team managed to pull off something that has never been done at BIRC before, winning Gold in the Mens Open (Benton), 30-34 (Williams) AND 35-39 (Larkman).

Team USA almost pulled this off in 2002 winning Gold in the Open (Schroder) and 30-34 (E Muller) but didn't manage the hat-trick.

We've checked with C2 UK and not even Leander Club or any of the other UK clubs managed the double of just Open and 30-39 (pre 2001).

We didn't realise until earleir today that this was a first.

Naturally we're quite pleased with this

Jon
Hey Xeno,

Not sure who that bloke is next to Benton. There were a few from Molesey on the front row so it could be any one of them.

As for me.... what did I pull at BIRC?

My hip flexor

I've been struggling with this for a couple months now and it just started hurting a bit during my warm up, so decided I didn't want to risk racing in case it gave any more trouble. Was nervous enough anyway! Am racing in Belgium this saturday so hope it's ok for that!!

Hope you're well. Will give you a call in the next day or two.

Cheers

Jon
He is the stroke man in the GB 4-.

Yeah, the blonde guy next to me is Andrew Triggs-Hodge, stroke for the GB 4- and stroke for the Oxford 8+ in the last boat race. He seemed like a top guy and has a 30 min rate 20 PB of something like 1:37.7 avg which is scary!!!
