I was wondering what other race distances you would choose to race over other than a 2000m.

In the U.K we have 1000m, 1609m, 2500m. We where due to have a Grand Prix event over 5000m, but this has now been removed.

Sir Pirate
would definitely like a long distance one too, so voted 5km, being a lightweight, certainly shorter i would be less competitive...as haven't the power, but the further i go the closer the lwts get...i would even doa 10km, although i can't see this happening

Well I voted for the mile although I wouldn't mind doing a 5k, I think a full schedule of 5ks might make it a bit of a long day though.

I would have chosen half-marathon if it was an option. I chose 5k since it was the closest to 21097m.

Honestly, a race any longer than those listed would be pretty boring for everyone except the participants, and as monkey writes, would make for a long day--and probably few participants.
The most I would attempt to race over would be 6000m. We did have a 5000m event in the U.K last year in Kent. Was a good event, no e-row though. I am thinking of changing the event I run in South London to a 5K next year, rather than the 1609m it was this year.

What distances do you race over in the States? is it just 2K's?

Sir Pirate

Phil, it looks like most distances are over 2km...

Here is last years racing calender for the USA
http://www.concept2.com/rowing/racing/c ... r>
Some interesting places we can all travel to!
Looking forward to seeing what will be on and when this season!

Wish we had more races and at different distances. I'm looking forward to the time the PM3 can be used for internet racing/training.

I choose 5K since that is the closest distance that you have to a 10K. I realize that 10K in a venue would tie up the ergs for too long. Big Bird was going to have a 10K at the first erg race at Cambridge until he sat down and did the logistics.

On e-row, we raced 500, 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K, 5K, 6K, 7K, 8K, 9K, 10K, 12K, HM, and Marathon last year as part of "Le Tour".

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I am trying to buy a PM2+ for my model C so I can race online. I think racing over the 5K will give me the edge I need to drop me under 17:00 mins. For those that don't know, I have an obsession for 5K,s.

I really feel that the Grand Prix circuit in the UK should have more distances, this coming season we have, 1609m (1 Mile) 2000m and I think we still have a 1000m, but not sure. I do know that the 5000m has been dropped

Sir Pirate

As 5000m was the longest distance listed I chose that. However, I think that some thought should be given to having races over 6000m as it is often used as selection criteria for on water rowing crews.

Also, the extra 1000m meters, in the 6000m from the 5000m races, would be enough to break the sprinters back and suit the longer distance atheletes. There is a need to have a longer distance race to draw some interest from those that don't feel comfortable with the shorter sprint races.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

I agree with Roland, that a different distance (like a 6k) would be interesting. Over in the UK though, there iis much less emphasis on 6k as there is in the States. Having not raced 2500m (thank God), I can't comment, but I put down 5k as one to do. I liked the mile though. There's indecision for you.

Xav

Seems I'm the only one to have voted for the 2.5k

Rowing 2500m feels quite natural to me, maybe because I'm not trying hard enough
