USIR Dev Squad: Training

Post by [old] Jim Castellan » August 2nd, 2005, 10:35 pm

Summer cold hit me last Tuesday -- kept at the workouts and did OK to so-so until Friday on the 3rd 20min piece when I crashed and burned. Did little Sat & Sun and Monday (Aug 1) decided I was on the mend (although much congestion still working its way out of the system) enough to try a test, my first since March.

I did a 5k in 18:04.3 (about 1:48.5) fairly evenly -- 9:00 2500M split. Actually felt better than I thought I would. But I didn't notice the suggeted 24spm rating so I didn't watch it -- probably averaged 26 spm.

I thought I would do 5k test pieces instead of 20mins and see in two months if I might get close to the 60 y.o. record of 17:30.0 (1:45.0) (before having to start working more on shorter speedwork). 17:30 is a tough goal but offers motivation.
