Has anyone been following the suggested workouts? If so, how easy or difficult have they been for you? I expected the first three workouts to get progressively harder, but actually they've been easier, at least for me.

3 x 20min. This is similar to what I've been doing about twice a week, 60min @20spm. But this time I lowered the stroke rate to 18 spm and kept the same pace (1:58), which really drained me. I slept well that night!

4 x 10min 4-3-2-1. This happens to be a Wolverine Plan workout that I've done in the past, so I knew exactly how to pace it (1:38 reference pace). It wasn't that bad, but I don't have the strength to go any faster. In the future I'll try to keep the stroke rates more accurate - the 18 spm piece ends up being 19 spm more often than not.

2 x 20min 1:30/0:30. I took a guess and used the pace I can do 2 x 4000m in (1:48) and tried to keep 24 spm. Starting and stopping all the time made the workout feel like it never got started - it was broken up too much. It's not quite the same as 8 x 500, which is more intense but with more rest, but not like a continuous row, either. Maybe after a few tries my time will start to go down, though for me 24 spm @1:46 is probably my limit for a workout like this. I'd rather do this as a 2 x 15min continuous session, and I bet I can just about match the pace, even without any rest. Next week I'll throw in some 26 spm segments to make it a little harder.

So lots of longer, lighter pieces with some power (i.e. 90") and AT.

I hope that helps,

Tom
Until yesterday I'd been at nationals in Indianapolis for a week, and before that 2-a-day water workouts to prepare for nationals. So because of that, I hadn't been keeping up much erging. But last week just before nationals I did a 20 minute averaging 2:02, and today I did a 30 minute averaging 2:04.5. It's ncie getting back on the erg, but I hope to develop a good arobic background with medium-intensity steady states, soon I'll work it up to 40 and 60 minutes. Also I plan on alternating short workouts (such at the suggested 4 by 10 minute) with these longer pieces. How about everyone else?
