USIR Dev Squad: Suggested Workouts
What has happened to the “rest week training program?” October is just about over and we are still on the same schedule as the rest of the month. Not that it really matters now. Most of us have completed the end of the month trial. It was nice to have the usual Sunday rest day today, but my team, Row Hearty, had fallen behind the RowPro group again and I was feeling restless. So I went fishing around for an event that I had never posted before and decided to do a 10k – just for the halibut. This way I get a lifetime personal best as long as I finish the piece. I managed to meet my goal, under 45 minutes. I choose that because I checked the 10k on the fly as I was doing a 60 minute one week ago. That one was just barely under the 45 minutes, so it looked feasible. Today’s final result was 44:45.5, so I am happy with it. Especially since it meant that the pumpheads have pulled a couple of notches ahead of the computer guys again (meters/member, of course).

I have sometimes considered spending a couple of weeks on the coast to try for some sea level PBs. Today I came up with a neat thought. I could pack up the erg, a couple of boards, and a level in my pickup and go down to the double lagoon at Isla Requeson and join the B.C. to B.C. migrants for a week or so of beach camping. The problem is that my motivation for heavy erging would dissipate rapidly in the Baja sunshine. About 12 years ago I was there with an Alden made Appledore pod. That beats erging, but half the time the “El Norte” was blowing heavily. Making headway into that was a real chore, especially trying to stay head on to the wind. Going downwind was worse, since the waves were breaking over the stern.

Enough – I ramble.

Regards,

Bob S.
