The DYNO

If you are a dyno user, please let me know. I'd like to start a discussion among current and former users about what you like about usign the Dyno or what you didn't like that made you a former Dyno user.

Did it seem to help your rowing? The Hagerman research seems to suggest that it helps in some ways but perhaps not in others.

I recently bought one and am planning to incorporate it into the U. South Dakota Crew spring training. I'd love to hear about what works and what doesn't.

Thanks for any thoughts, opinions, insight . . .

Will

The DYNO
Howdy!

I bought a Dyno to help with returning to sculling after being stopped by sequalae of a rib injury. It was the only thing that worked for me in terms of strengthening appropriate muscles without inadvertantly recruiting uppert trapezius. Bench pulls, pull ups, bent over row (weights) all perpetuated the diffuclties I was having. That said, if you have any oarsmen who tend to stick their shoulders in their ears on the drive the Dyno might be the perfect device.

I haven't used it as a central part of my training, however, so I can't speak to perceived performance benefits. For the most part, I just use it instead of free weights for circuit training. I am very, very pleased with the machine and don't think I could have returned to sculling without it.

The only two limitations that I associate with it are that there I am not aware of any way to simulate deadlifts with it, and there is no concentric resistance (i.e., no weight or effort required when "lowering" the weight after contracting muscles for the "lift." For positives, my impression is that as a not-very-skilled person with weights I think I may be less likely to injure myself with a Dyno and yet I can still push quite hard using it.

I'd love to learn about your impressions (and those of others) of the machine as a training tool.

David

We use the dyno on weight lifting days at the end of a circuit, almost everyday during conditioning, not so much mid-season though.
