I have an idea about split times for races but what about the stroke rates?

The BIRC results pages show pace and rate data at the last event. The ratings I've seen were 29-32. If you look for someone of your own weight/age category I think you can find appropriate levels.
http://www.concept2.co.uk/birc/results.php

QUOTE(jamesg @ Dec 4 2005, 06:30 AM)

The ratings I've seen were 29-32.

Then you, clearly, didn't look at my stroke rates. I did BIRC at 32-34. But as a shortie lightweight that's the main tactic to get a good time.

It depends on age, weight, height and strength vs endurance.

For me it's a good idea to rate fairly high (spm 33 this is high for my size and weight). The reason is that I ventilate more air through the lungs this way and pull with less force thereby recruiting fewer lactate producing fst twitch fibers.
