Hi folks,

I'm looking for input from people who have had this problem and the surgery to correct it.

I finally tracked down my ongoing knee and ankle instability. It seems I tore my ACL completely and damaged the meniscus on the inside of my left knee 25 years ago in a skiing accident. No wonder I had trouble hiking, running etc all these years.

I won't be able to have surgery until September, as we are off on several back-to-back vacations which all involve cycling, hiking, carrying packs, whatever. I am now armed (legged?) with an ankle and a knee brace for the trips.

I'd like advice from others whao have had the surgery, or whatever. Will it make a difference in my erging performance? Anything else it would be good to know about?

Thanks,
grams
I tore both my ACL and meniscus on my right knee while trail running. Before I had the surgury, I experienced multple painful knee collapses.

I have several friends that had wonderful results from their surgury, however, mine didn't go so well. I had a patellar graft and pins placed through the meniscus. The recovery period was difficult, but manageable, but the end result has not been what I had hoped for. My new tendon is slightly loose and I constantly get what, what the doctor has referred to as, micro-sprains. My knee is always mildly inflamed (some days worse than others). I can no longer participate in active sports - which is why I took up rowing. I'm not sure if I'd do it all over again.

FYI...I was 32 when I had the surgury.
