If by the outside of your wrist, you mean the thumb side, and the pain and tenderness is just a little bit towards your body from the base of your thumb, you should probably get a splint.

If you are near an occupational therapist, they can be the best for this or an orthotics store.

You may want to check out this link:
<a href='

I have intermittent tendonitis problems. This is what I did:

Switched back to a Model C handle from the Model handle
started erging with my thumbs on top of the handle
Doing some 5 minute sections erging underhanded to strengthen the muscles on both sides of my arms (this defintiely helped)
Wearing straps just below my elbows
Doing longer slower intervals for a while

erg carefully,

grams

Here is a good good piece of equipment for building hand/wrist/forearm muscles:
<a href='

I try to keep a loose, relaxed grip, both on the C2 and on the water. If I start getting soreness at the elbows or wrists, I concentrate on keeping the grip even looser. It seems to help.

Let me add a piece of magic first posted by Yoda: Take three full sheets of newspaper. Lay one on a table and grab it at the edge. Now keeping your arm off the table, just using your fingers draw in and squeeze the sheet of newspaper into a ball. Repeat twice with the other two sheets of newspaper. Now do the same with the other hand with three more sheets of newspaper.

Byron

Most likely you are trying to pull on the water with your wrist bent. Adjust your grip appropriately, and the tendonitis will likely disappear.

With the oar square to the water, the arm should be straight from your knuckles to your shoulder. If your grip deviates from that, you'll be fighting yourself and losing !

If not sure, hang from a pullup bar, and look at your wrists. Then look at them while rowing.
