Looking to purchase a chin up bar for use in a basement. The ceiling is unfinished so I would like to attach it directly to one of the overhead joists. Ideally, it would have a seperate mounting bracket which would allow the handle part of the bar to be removed when not in use.

Any general guidelines, or recommendations on a bar which meets this criteria would be greatly appreciated.

Then I took an old broken handle of something, cut off the sharp end and stuck it in between the two hangers. Viola, instant chinup bar. Total cost, about $3.00

Jeff

Jeeezzz, just drill a couple of holes in the joists and slid the bar in place. I doubt seriously that it would bother the joists.

Yoda

What, you mean you can't just grab the joists and do your pull-ups? Grip must need work...

I've been using a great chin up bar callled the door gym. It has a very clever design so that your bodyweight locks the bar in place without the need to drill any holes for a mounting bracket. Google for it.

Tim
