I seem to get this unusual pattern, whenever I feel good and start yet another time to exercise something always comes along to interfere. Drives me crazy, look at this...

December 5th - Begin Rowing
December 23rd to the 27th - Get The Flu
December 26th to the 29th - Kid is sick
December 27th - Jan. 10th - Family member gravely ill

I resume rowing Jan. 11th.

February 11th to the 14th - Kid is sick
February 27th to March 2nd - My back gives out
March 3rd to March 14th - Monitor malfunctions on rower
March 17 to March 21st - No sleep due to family member sick
March 25 to April 11th - Highly infectious person in house, have no bathroom to use, can't exercise.
April 12th - Resume rowing (secured bathroom), back gives out again

Normally I have back problems once a year, I guess it is the stress. I swear, some unseen force is trying to stop me from exercising...

Time to foil the fates, I say!! When I threw my back out in October, I got back on the erg as soon as I could and would even declare 10 minutes at a *really* slow pace a victory.

Your consistency and diligence (no matter how brief and/or slow) will begin to build your confidence and chip away at the power of the fates.

You'll be back. I promise.

I'm sorry for all of the stress that you've been experiencing. One thing is for sure, you don't need the additional anxiety of feeling bad about your workouts on top it all.

I'll be rooting (and praying) for you! tlc
Yep,

This time I won't stop no matter how bad the pain is. Last night didn't help any, lying in bed the back got worse...

I would never suggest rowing if it is causing you pain! Only row if you can do it pain free -- otherwise you will likely further damage or aggravate your back.

When I say that I got back to rowing as soon as I *could*, I meant after two weeks of allowing my back to completely rest and heal. This is the second time your back was thrown out, correct? That tells me that you may be more susceptible to this type of re-injury if you don't allow the proper healing time.

Be cautious now and tenacious for the rest of your life -- there's time for that.

Best to you, tlc
