I have only been rowing seriously for a couple of weeks and I love the way I feel after a good row. Unfortunately, one side effect of the higher amount of rowing is that it has killed my motivation to weight-train!

I used to weight-train, run, and do rotate cardio workouts (airdyne, stepper, even some erg), but since I've been erging seriously, I find my muscles are too fatigued (particularly in the upper body) to motivate me to workout twice a week with the free weights like I used to do. The most I've been able to do is squeeze out a few sets of exercises on the complementary muscles to rowing (dumbbell bench press, hamstring curls, ab work), but that's it.

Has anyone experienced this? Does it pass once I've had some more erging under my belt? Or do weight-training and rowing work sort of antagonistically against one another to some degree (if either one is done in large amounts)?
Ashwin

You just need to get in shape. If you continue to row hard, your back muscles may always be tired (and squats and leg presses may be hard to max out) but you can definitely lift regularly with rowing.

give it time... you just need to get used to rowing... and then you can still lift weights when your in better shape...

weights and rowing work well together. Just listen to your body and make sure that you do not overtrain. I have found that rowing makes me stronger in my weights, especially in the upper back.
