My husband and I have been sharing his C2 rower since he convinced me to try it shortly after he bought it in October 2004. We have taken turns encouraging and inspiring each other to keep it going through many slumps since then. And we both just recently hit the 2 million meter mark!

We have enjoyed getting involved in the Concept 2 challenges, too. Last year we took the C2 Valentine's Challenge to row 14,000 meters in the week leading up to Valentine's Day (February 14th). This year, we were wondering how many couples were out there in C2 forumland who might be interested in joining us for a couples version of that challenge?

It doesn't seem like that many meters to me -- some of you do 14,000 meters a day! But would it be a realistic challenge to make sure that both of you (if you both log your meters online) row the 14,000 meters in that week and report it to this discussion thread?

Any ideas are welcome!

Robin and Gene
Robin,

You are so good at making up challenges!!

I've talked it over with my hubby and we will join in, but we want to increase the challenge slightly. We are going to try to row 70,000 metres each during the week leading up to Valentine's Day for a total of 140,000 metres!

Canada Goose and Yukon John

My DH and I were both planning to do the VC, so count us in. Maybe I'll see if we can make it a family challenge and get the boys to do it, too.

Schenley and Jeff

I'll try it too. My husband rows regularly so this will be my challenge to try and keep up with him for a week.

Margaret

Great! So far we have

Robin and Gene
Canada Goose and Yukon John (upping the ante to 140,000 meters!)
Schenley and Jeff
Margaret and Bill
Doug and Shari (by PM)

We start next week. I hope others will join us, too. It's good for the heart in so many ways!!

By the way, I could probably do 70,000 meters that week, too. I know Gene can! Take a look at the virtual team challenge list (sorted by total as is the default) and scroll down to the matching 166,450 meter couple - after I finished yesterday, he checked my total meters and set the PM3 so he could row just to match it. He told me he didn't want anyone to come between us.

Isn't that SWEET?!

<img src='

Oh, girl, he sounds like a keeper!

And hey, he rows, so how bad can he be???

I'm working on my hubba. Otherwise, I may be doing 70K by myself that week. Just a darn good thing he does some other stuff well besides rowing. He makes some mean eggrolls!

--Jen in WI

My husband Doug and I are commiting to the Feb. 7-14th row. I haven't discussed with him the number of meters yet. Will aim for the 140,000. I will post later.

Shari
I spoke with my husband and we are committing to rowing 100,000 between us for the time period between Feb. 7-14th. Thanks Robin for another good idea.

Shari

QUOTE(Shari @ Feb 3 2006, 10:02 AM)

My husband Doug and I are commiting to the Feb. 7-14th row. Shari,
Well, I looked again at the C2 Valentine's Day Challenge and it says it starts on the 9th - not the 7th! So, I don't think I will try to do 70,000 meters in that amount of time. I have to work and stuff like that! We talked it over, did the math, and have decided to just make sure we both make the 14,000 meters between the 9th and the 14th. (Whew!)

Shari & Doug, I'm impressed with your taking up the challenge with Jen & hubby!!

One thing we always do (unless we forget!) is to set the C2 up for the other person before we finish our workout. I set the foot setting to his size. He puts the little baby crew socks on the handles to protect my hands from calluses, etc. During this 6 day period, I will try to do one more valentin-ey thing to encourage him - leave a note on the monitor or something

Looking forward to it!

Robin

I think that John and I will just start our longer challenge on the 8th instead. I think that we could do it, starting from the 9th, but it wouldn't be as much fun since I have to work 5 days in there and I have speedskating races on the Sunday which cuts down on the rowing I can do on that day! I'm pretty sure that we'll have 14,000 metres each before the first day is over though!

Shannon
Ok...this sounds like a good plan, but since this is Harry's first challenge (and I am the one volunteering him) I think we may not make 140,000 (sorry Shannon....you and John amaze me!) . We are in, but at the 70,000 level. We may even try to do all of ours together since we row at a gym on side by side ergs. Not really my idea of a romantic date, but we will try to make it fun. Anne

Sounds romantic to me, Anne! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />

Gene and I met the C2 Valentine's Day challenge. Woo! Hoo! I finished 14,000 meters+ today and Gene did 14,000 yesterday alone. 8)

I'm glad I didn't commit to the 70,000 because my allergies have been raging -- probably because of the Santa Ana conditions and all the smoke from the brush fires nearby. Our C2 is in the garage and I usually like to keep the door open for "fresh" cool air. Not this week!

Jeff finished, too. I think it was on Saturday.

It's a good thing we had the challenge. I've been having trouble motivating to erg.
