I too am not a member of the Ducks, but would love to participate in the weight loss challenge. I need ACCOUNTABILITY! I gained 70 lbs in graduate school, and now I need to get it OFF!

I just bought my Concept2 rower a couple of days after Thanksgiving Holiday, and am about to hit 100,000 meters in the Holiday Challenge. Don't know if I've lost weight (I hate weight scales), but my clothes are already fitting better.

I want to be a lightweight by next summer, and I am confident with your help, I can do it!

Hey RowerBabe!

You can be a Duck, a Goose, a Gecko, an Aardvark, doesn't matter!

IMHO, the whole thing is about solidifying the goals for yourself by making a public committment and being willing to participate in the process. Like you said, it kinda/sorta forces the ol' brain to make ya more accountable to the success of the goal. I think it directs the whole mindset of the weight loss attempt into a more positive light and helps the chances for success.

Reading everyone's ideas for making small, healthy changes is a good sharing of information and gives everyone in the group different ideas to try for themselves. Being a part of a like-minded group helps to keep the up momentum as well because I think everyone truly wants to see us all succeed. I think it's hard not to get caught up in something like that.

And because it's short-term (one month) with a reasonable, healthy goal (four to eight pounds), it's easier for people to do and not get discouraged. It's kinda like my plan to lose 10 pounds five times. Sounds a lot easier to my brain to do than to lose 50 pounds!

Also, the January Virtual Team Challenge is so timely because it gives an added incentive to exercise in addition to any nutrition changes for the weight loss plan. Winning combination, hey? This all might sound like baby steps towards weight loss, but methinks smaller changes are more likely to be made a habit, and that's what appeals to me about all of this. I can always add some other small changes as I go!

What are we going to do for February??

And RowerBabe, great job on the gains you're already making! Keep it up!
--Jen
