Girls!, I was reading some stuff in the "training" part of this forum and I found a very interesting topic...

WHAT´S YOUR GOAL? it was added by "DMHAYDEN"... It´s a great topic!.

So, girls!, what´s your goals?!

Mine are:

1- Get in the first place in the ranking of the 2km, in my categorie (women´s heavyweight, 20 years old). In the general ranking, get between the 5 first places (now, I´m in 20th.)

2- Get erg record time in 2km in South America. I think I can do it... I don´t have the exact time, but the record is aroung 6.50, and I´m not too far (6.57), but it means a lot of work!.

3- I´d like to make a try in a half marathon. But, i´m far away of that goal yet... all my training now is exclusive on water. Maybe next year I´ll make it.

Some words of inspiration that works for my are:

"NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE... IMPOSSIBLE IS JUST A WORD" Everything can be done with hard work.
Cheers!! Keep erging!.

My goals are:

1. To row a million meters by June 5, 2005 (our first wedding anniversary).

2. To row a marathon by May 7, 2005.

3. To learn to row on the water this summer.

4. Participate in the Denver Mile High Sprints next year.

5. Maintain/improve general health and fitness.

6. Have fun!

I almost forgot one of my most important goals:

7. Last, but certainly not least, I hope to encourage, motivate and/or inspire anyone who is dealing with being overweight to live a healthier lifestyle in any way I can. I share my story often in hopes that it moves someone who is having the same problems that I suffered with for most of my life, to take the necessary steps towards a happier, healthier life.

Hi there

They always say that if you make a goal public then you are more likely to achieve it! So here goes

1) lose 21 lbs
2) improve my overall level of health and fitness
3) compete in my first indoor rowing competition
4) row my first million metres by the end of the year
5) get my boys to sleep through the night
6) stick to my goals and be happy!

La Flaca - you are so right - impossible is just a word. I shall keep that thought in my mind for a long time.

Hello, Ducks!

Thanks for sharing your goals -- I agree, it's a good idea to declare them publicly ... particularly in this forum, where no one will harrass you if you slip a little.

Mine are:
1) Learn how to set reasonable goals.
2) Get my Million Meter t-shirt by the end of 2005! I'm already at 382 K, so I could accomplish this in about 4 more months.
3) Keep this stupid fibromyalgia at bay. It has a tendency to sneak up on me if I push too hard for too long. The first 3 months of erging this year went fine, and as soon as March Madness was done - WHAM! - in bed and in a lot of pain by 7 PM on April 1st. I've been on hiatus for the past 3 days.
So ...
4) Keep erging, but maybe not 6 days a week (like I did in March)! I'd like to do at least 4 days/ wk of 5K or more.
5) Lose 20 lbs and be stronger. I believe I can do that with # 4 and some time.

and finally...
6) Cheer on everyone else as they work towards their goals. There's nothing like a free cheering section -- I could use one at work ("WHOOO, Dawn! Nice work on that graph! Yaaay!!") ... but I think I can be a little more enthusiastic here.

Thanks to La Flaca, Bufflehead, Ritz Quackoar, and Mallard for sharing their goals. Good luck!

Hi Ducks!!!

I'd like to thank la_flaca for posting my topic on this forum, and I'd especially like to wish her good luck in achieving her goal of becoming the fastest rower on the continent. Like she says, nothing is impossible!

KathiS, I have a similar goal as you: I want to row 1 million meters by Father's day. I was thinking of aiming for my birthday (June 6, the day after your anniversary!) but that seemed too ambitious.

Good luck all of you! I hope no one minds me lurking on this forum . You ladies are a great inspiration.

Dave
Hi Ducks,

Congrats on making the top 30 in the Team Standings so quickly. You really have some great team spirit going. Just a thought on an 'end of season' goal - how about seeing if the Ducks in a Row can make it into the top 25 ?

Happy erging,

Martin (Taff Attack)

Wonderful Topic! Ok, here goes:

1.) Survive my move to another state (1.5 weeks left to pack!), find a job, and get my erg packed, moved, and set back up safely.

2.) Get back on track with rowing on the erg as soon as possible.

3.) Drink more water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

4.) Eat a more well rounded diet so that I can stay healthy.

5.) Continue cross training and doing weights to help my erging as well as to stay healthy and prevent osteoporosis (i'm only 27, but it runs heavily in my family).

6.) Try to maintain a 5k at least 5 days a week when I get all settled after the move.

7) Post more often on the forum

8) row more on the erg!

Hey all! Am new to the message boards but I agree that goals are more real when they've been shared.

So here goes...

1. To break 7.20, I'm at 7.37 right now but I HAVE to do it by the end of August if I'm to have any chance of being accepted by the club I want to row for when I get back to New York

2. To continue to lose weight until I am at an appropriate rower weight for my height

3. To pb during a 5k erg competition, must break 19.53!

4. To keep rowing as long as I can. I have chondromalacia so taking care of myself is really important and I have to keep that always in mind when I choose how to train.

5. To qualify with my team for Women's Henley

And for now, that's it but goals are always changing and developing so we'll see in a few weeks!

Pay off my credit card, almost done but need to maintain intensity about this
7. Draw up a will
8. Get boat insurance
9. Find homes for two kittens ASAP

That's my rowing and nonrowing goal/to do list.
Liz
aka "Rowena Hullfire"

Great topic, La Flaca! Written goals are more likely to become reality.

1. I've lost 30 pounds, but I still have another 60 to go. But I'm one-third of the way there!

2. Improve my cardiovascular fitness to ward off the threat of cardiac bypass surgeries that my brother and sister both had at 50 and 49 years of age consecutively. They both smoked a lot and had high cholesterols (280's). I've never smoked, and the highest my cholesterol has been was 163 so I hope that puts a lot of benefit in my corner!

3. So that makes another goal: Keep my cholesterol in normal ranges.

4. Through practicing yoga, be able to take some of the basic asanas through a full range of motion. This will take awhile, but I'll get there! I have to get rid of the "tire" around my belly so I can do some of these. I'm one of those "apple" body types.

5. Row a million meters by the time the Holiday Challenge rolls around, then I want to do the 200,000m for that. I *want* one of those t-shirts!!

6. I want to get into size 10 jeans again.

7. Get off my blood pressure medication--I think I might be there, too! Last BP was 120/76, down from the 150's/90's.

8. Then all the usual--reduce stress levels, improve sleep, prevent osteoporosis, keep the immune system revved, etc. I haven't had a cold since a year ago March.

Now I gotta print this out and put it next to my erg and on my bathroom mirror so I'll see it every morning.....

Thanks!
--Jenny from WI

Hey all- I'm new here, and this 'fits' with where I'm at right now! I've just started back in the gym, and thankful the Y has a couple ergs.

My goals (rowing and otherwise) are:

1. Lose 55# by Christmas- without compromising lean body mass.
2. Get into condition to do the Mile High Sprints in Denver.
3. Be ready to get out on the water in May and hold my own in the comp rowing group.
4. Finish my Bachelors degree (History).
5. Join the Million Meter Club in 2006.
6. Save and pay cash for an Peinert 26 (hopefully 2nd hand!).
