Group H

Thomas Phelan (USA)
Krysta Coleman (Canada)
Lucio Sangalli (Italy)
Dr KCGoh (Malaysia)

Well,

Hello and salutations to my two brothers and one sister of mighty Group H. At first I thought we were on the same team but then realized we are actually bitter enemies.

I am glad to announce that Krysta and I are competing promptly at 1900 GMT on rowpro or some time shortly thereafter. The competition should be fiece. I have been tapering all week for tomorrow or maybe not. The race is closed.

Lucio, if you would like to race as well tomorrow, that would be fine. I don't think it may be possible to race each other over the weekend. I will send you an email and give you an idea of when we could race on Saturday or Sunday but perferably tomorrow (Friday). I don't mind doing two 5k's because I really won't have a chance at any other time to race you.

Later,
Thomas

The result of today's Supercanoa World Cup, Group H, 5k

Thomas-17:09.8/ 1:43.0
Lucio-18:29.9/ 1:51.0
Krysta-20:03.4/ 2.00.3

This was an intended race between Krysta and I, but Lucio showed up, signed up, and raced, also. I tried to communicate that I was to race first with Krysta as part of the Thomas (USA) versus Krysta (Canada) and then with him as part of the Thomas (USA) versus Lucio (USA). But that is OK. I am guessing that this became Thomas versus Lucio so, I did another 5k where I rowed a 17:58.5/ 1:47.9 for Krysta to race against later in the weekend unless it was not necessary to do so.

Well then, it appears Tom Zalmstra of The Neatherlands has become a competitor in Group H.

Welcome, Tom.

Please let us know how you are getting along. It appears that one of your races is against Lucio of Italy and another against Krysta of Canada.

I have some bad news for Krysta. It appears the 5k we did with Lucio will be used as the race between you and I. I just checked the Supercanoa web site and that is how it is listed.

If that is the case, my second 5k is 17:58.5, which is what I was going to use in the race against Krysta and use the 17:09.8 in the race against Lucio since I was unable to communicate that I would race him after racing Krysta.

Didn't have much time on saturday, so I created an Rowpro race for a few hours later, hoping that Lucio or Krysta would show up. They didn't, and I raced a 5K on my own: 19'26.

I Have set up another 5K on Rowpro for 19H GMT sunday. Krysta has added herself, so that is fine.

Tom

I think so long as we do two 5ks, Marilyn can sort out where to put them. By the way, I didn't realize you were in your 40's. I'd always imagined you were late 20's or early 30's. That was an especially smashing good time on your first 5k, in light of your age group!

I will try to do a better effort on my 5k today with Tom Zalmstra and see if I can PB.
Really nice race today with Alain and Tom Z. We were all within a 10 second spread for the first 3k. Then Tom kicked into gear and my legs started to protest so I dropped back a couple seconds in avg. pace. Still, lots of fun and a reasonably close finish for all three of us. (I am used to struggling over the finish line a couple minutes after everyone else..) It was a 2 second PB for me, and only the second time I've gotten under 20 min for a 5k.

Thanks, guys!

Thanks for the compliment!

It will make a difference if we are getting points based on some sort of mathematical equation involving complicated physics that entails not only a victory over another person when compared to age, weight, and sex but also points award in the difference in time, however; if it is simply wins and loss' then, you are right, it won't matter.

Group H
Thomas Phelan (USA) 5
Krysta Coleman (Canada) 4
Tom Zalmstra (The Neatherlands) 2
Lucio Sangalli (Italy) 2

It is obviously very close after only two races. It looks like that not only must you beat your opponent but you must also row a faster second 5k, otherwise, you can punctuate yourself.

I rowed two awlfull races. The first as a warmup to my next race.
In the first race I was rowed to pieces by Andreas van Tonder.
In the next one Eckhart had his way with me.

Nevertheless I'm now in the top of my group with 25 points.

Either a mistake have been made or the system is flawed.

After loosing to races I shouldn't be in top of my group, not even if I rowed a far better race no. 2.

AndreasB
