Hi,
This morning at 8:00 GMT Roland, Pieter, Hennie and me rowed a 3x2000. Pieter, Hennie and Roland are using RowPro, I'm on e-row. The warming up and first race did not start for me with Pieter being the administrator. The second race, I was the race administrator and everything went well. Third race, Pieter was administrator, also without problems. Finally I setup the cooldown 2k, again without problems.
The races where I was the administrator, I waited with starting the race until all others were checked in and told me by chat if they saw all lights green. Then I announced to start the race by chat and asked everyone to stop chatting until the race was over. This worked in both cases, so I will set up the FastFallRace for the next weekend at 8:00 GMT

With Roland, Pieter and Hennie we had some discussion if we should set it up at Saturday or Sunday. Pieter likes to continue the 3x2000 sessions at saturday 8:00 GMT, and I understood from Roland that it doesn't matter to him if it will be saturday or sunday. I don't care either, so I like to hear from the others who mentioned in another thread to be interested, if they prefer saturday or sunday 8:00 GMT. Andreas, Phil, Nigel, Pieter, Roland, Hennie and maybe others, please let me also know your 5k SB's if you did not already post these in the other thread.

Jaap

Sunday would be good for me at 8:00GMT. I have changed some training around now and Friday night is my hard distance night now, so if I rowed on Saturday morning I would find it tough still having a hard session in my legs. I will go with what most people want though, I can do either day, but Sundays would be better for me.

I have entered Fall_Series_5K_H1 Sat 8th Oct at 12:00GMT. SB for 5K is 17:05.5

Sir Pirate

Jaap,
I'd like to do the 5K fall race next Sunday at 8 GMT. I'd also like you to join Pieter, Hennie and myself in the 3 X 2000m session the day before at Saturday 8 GMT. I thought that we worked well together as a fast group and you certainly set a fast pace at the start of each race giving me someone to chase.

The first of the three 2Ks was also a disaster for me because my chat screen was locked up and I couldn't see the race behind it. I missed the start and the data on the right hand side was greying out frequently so I didn't row too hard in case it crashed, however somehow it remained active.

The 2nd 2K race was good for all of us. That was a great 6:41.4 from Pieter. My boat was in between Pieter's and yours Jaap for most of the race but I managed to draw level with you Jaap in the last 500m and cross the line together in 6:29. I thought it was going to be more of the same in the third race but with 800 m to go you ran out of puff while I was doing 1.35 to 1.36 pace to come home in 6.28. Maybe next week Jaap you can get that second sub 6:30 in the session.

I've only done a handful of 5K sessions this season with my best so far this season being 16:45.6. So I guess if your best this season is 16:46 then we'd be starting together or does the handicap get applied at the end. It would be nice if it was a straight race because theirs a fair chance it's going to be a season PB which I'd like to rank.

Sir Pirate, you are welcome to join the fast 5K race at 8 GMT on the Sunday but you'll need to go sub 17 to be in the winner's circle. Never mind sparring with Mr Flack because the real competition will be going sub 17. Have you got what it takes to do that Sir Pirate?

Rockin Roland

With Roland, Pieter, Hennie, Phil and myself we have 3 slots open. Hopefully Andreas and Nigel can also join us next week (still one more slot open then)

Jaap

Welcome back! I remember the online 5k on june 10-th where we both set a PB within one second from eachother very well. It's one of the few races where I really ended up at the floor (with my feet still fixed like in Phils avatar) en stayed there a few minutes trying to absorb all the oxygen I could get into my lungs.

The race next sunday will be a handicap race according to the fall race series rules. According to the same rules, your start time will be based on your SB, meaning we will start within one second from eachother, just like Roland. The 3 of us will then try to catch the others: Phil, Pieter, Hennie and others. At this moment 1:42 (17:00) will be a realistic target for me as well, I did a 5k at almost full speed twice the last two weeks: 17:09 en 17:08. The 2k in 6:29.8 yesterday was my first because of the trouble to get started in the 1OF3 one, and without thinking about another 2k to come.

Roland, since I don't care about any "verified" status in the rankings, I will also rank a PB if I row it in a handicap race. In a handicap race, I use a stopwatch in which I program my delay time. At countdown in e-row, I press the stopwatch as soon as I see the ROW. Then when my delay almost expires, I concentrate on the stopwatch which starts bleeping at the moment I can start. After the race I subtract the delay time and if it is a PB or SB I rank it.

Jaap

My SB is 16:48 (rounding).
Roland is going to leave us behind real fast if he hits an SB.
Why don't the three of us all start at the same time, say at 1:50
to make it simple?

Hi All
I also want to join, but the time is a bid difficult.I was hoping that we can do it at 9GMT(Su).If you guys can't change I will have to join another race.I dont think I will be going for a SB because my SB is also my PB(16:37.5).I'm focusing on BIRC and wound be at my best.
If it move to Sa. 8 GMT it will be fine too

I just got back from a 2 day Canoe race(82km). It was a lot of fun. Very fast flowing water with a lot of big rappids and tricky obsticals. My body is very shore and tired but satisfied.
1700 entries(2nd biggest canoe race in South Africa)
I try to post some foto's later

If there's not much difference between our season PBs then I think it would be difficult to apply a fair handicap to us three individually. So let Hennie, Phil and Pieter start first with us three with the same handicap following afterwards together. It would make it a very interesting race.

Rockin Roland

To delay the race with one our to Sunday 9, 9:00 GMT is not a problem for me, but I need to know from the others who have already checked in if this suits them as well.

So Hennie, Pieter and Roland, please let me hear your votes again.

Roland, you preferred 8:00 GMT, but is 9:00 GMT also feasible? I know Andreas is probably the only 40+ online rower who can beat you at this moment, so it would be very nice to follow this battle of gigants... But if you can't then you can't and we do the race as planned at 8:00. Let me also know if there is a compromise like 8:30 GMT possible.

Then about the handicap and delay times. Since this race is part of the fall races, we should follow the fall races rules. In handicap races, bonus points can be gathered for places 1 to 3 (I assume not per race, just 1 to 3 in the total of all competitors over all fall race series). End of this week I will post the delay times for each competitor in our race. You are not allowed to start before your delay time has expired. But of course you are allowed to extra delay your start. For example, if Andreas will join us, he will start 58 seconds after Hennie. Because of our slower SB's, Roland, Michael and myself can start 8 or 9 seconds before Andreas, but there is no rule telling us wait longer and start together. However, the delay times based on your SB will be forwarded to Frank, not the times how long you actually have waited.

Finally, Phil, why are you not in this group? You were one of the voters for a Sunday race, and now your joining saturday's Also hoping Nigel will join us.

Jaap
