Folks -

Just wanted you all to know that FrankJ destroyed the current 30 minute ranking for his age group (60-69) this am in an online workout. Despite being 12 years his junior, I was watching his puddles all the way up the course. Well done Frank !

Frank = 8088m in 30 min
previous record = 8009m in 30 min (which is still a h*** of a lot better than anything i can do)

Ernie

Ernie,

Thanks for the compliment. The word "destroyed" may be a little too strong to use here. It is still very early in the season and there have been better distances posted if you look over the past few years. On the other hand it sure felt for an end of summer row.

Frank

As I said...too humble.

My dad once told me that victories are way too rare in life. You got to celebrate them!

Way to go.

You should point out that was a slide time, since Frank is too modest to do so.

With Frank being a heavyweight, 8088 divided by 1.06 is 7630 meters.

This is still a good distance but not the same as someone doing a greater distance on the erg and without having the extra assist from the slides.

John - your post seems illogical to me........how can you know whether it was on slides or not ?

Ernie,

Because I checked the info by his time in the rankings.

Bayko also does his times on slides.

Although I do a lot of early seacon training on slides, EVERY final ranking piece for the year that Ive done since I started six years ago has been done off the slides.

Interestingly enough, I seem to go faster off the slides.

Is the a personal best distance for the 30min Frank? Well done either way, sounds like a top row.

Pete

Bayko,

What a redundant explanation.

I have seen a number of times entered in the rankings by you done on slides.

And where are your times for this year? I see you have 10 times in the nonathlon but none of them entered in the rankings. Are you saying none of them were on slides?

Great row Frank! Don't let John put a damper on your party.

If you are faster on slides, use them. They are legal for rankings and for Nonathlon. However, for some strange reason, Concept has said that they can not be used for world records.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Yes the strange reason that they give unfair advantage.

Kind of like you also can't do a 2k on a bicycle and then call that a world record on an erg.

In the early part of the season I use slides. Early, when I'm well below what I expect my final season scores to be. By the time I approach my expected bests I stop using slides. ALL of the final scores in the online rankings for the past six years have been off slides. EVERY PB that I have ever done is off slides.

As for my times this year, don't you remember that you exposed me as being "afraid of" John Rupp passing me in the rankings? At the beginning of this season, during the rankings verification controversy, I stated why I wouldn't be entering my scores there. At least for the time being. As a supporter of C2's intent to make the top scores more valid I'll leave my own unverified scores out of the rankings, even if it's not necessary, to reduce the amount of fodder for your rantings. If I get good enough to make the top three I'll be sure to do what is necessary to be verified, and let you sputter away.

As for the Nonathlon, I fulfill both the letter of the law as well as the spirit of the law, if you will, in submitting my scores there. I don't feel the need to justify anything about it to you. Feel free to come up with your own adjustments to either reduce or eliminate my scores while improving your own if that makes you happy. I don't really care. Just leave them in Bizarro World. I promise to leave PATT entirely to you.

Cheers,

Rick
