Rick Bayko is going to see how fast he can do a marathon next weekend. He will be at my house so he can do the row on RowPro. Please join him for all or part of his row.

I might be rowing a marathon too, but not on RowPro. RowPro does not support multiple machines.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I tried to set up a race on RowPro, but the program kept defaulting the date to today's date. I then tried to set up the race using Cees' program, but kept getting error messages. I will try to set up a race later.

Paul Flack

Roughly 1:59.5 pace.

For the past four weeks I've done Sunday morning marathons, a bit faster each week. Going from 2:52 to 2:51 to 2:50 seemed to require almost no extra effort, and lulled me into a false sense of being a superstar in the making who was going to get a minute faster every week for a long time to come. Unfortunately going from 2:50 to 2:49 required a megajump in effort, at least during the final half-hour. So while up until yesterday I had been pipe-dreaming about 2:48 being just another "easy" Sunday marathon, I now have been alerted to the fact that it will be a difficult although achievable goal. I'll be glad to have company.

BTW, yesterday I watched the DVD of Return of the King while erging. The Rohhirim came to the rescue of Gondor, the Hobbitts successfully destroyed the One Ring, and the Dark Forces of Sauron were defeated. Just as I expected.

Rick

I have a marathon session set up on RowPro for 8:00 AM EST. (13:00 GMT) I had a session set up yesterday, and another rower had joined you, but the session mysteriously vanished. I set up another session this morning.

We have a small TV in the basement and wireless headphones. You can bring a DVD for your marathon. Or we have my daughter's stereo to keep us going.

Rick, my e-mail isn't working. (Again!) So I haven't got back to you. I will see you early on Sunday to set up and after the marathon we can hike down to the Boston Marathon course to scope out a place to park our ergs during the race.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

It used to be that I couldn't spell "engineer". Now I are one!

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Rick,

I'm doing a build week this week and have already put in about 45K with another 40K+ to go by Saturday but will join you on Sunday for at least a half marathon and longer if I'm feeling good. Your pace is about what I plan to use for my marathon so this should be a good warm up for me. I'll let you set the pace unless you want me to be a rabbit for the first half marathon.

Frank

Frank,

Good to have you aboard. I don't know how the RowPro works, but I'd say rowing at the same pace would be fine. Every 3km I slow just a bit as I take a quick drink while pulling one-handed. So don't be puzzled if I suddenly drop back just a bit. I'm usually back on average pace within 1km.

Paul, the library is supposed to have Brotherhood of the Wolf on DVD for me by then. It is 184 minutes so it should last the whole time, although if the RowPro screen is mesmerizing enough I may not need it.

Rick

Rick,

With RowPro you can select several different displays. 2D mode which is similar to the display you see in eRow. Aerial view which looks down on rowing boats. High res mode which I plan on using shows actual rowers on the water with scenery moving in the background. Since we will be on the same pace it gives the feeling of rowing with someone. It tends not to work well with a lot of rowers at different paces since it only shows your boat and those with plus or minus 10 meters.

Drinking every 3K sounds good to me. I will try to do the same so we can stay together. As I said I'm not sure how far I will go but you will I will just leave RP running so it doesn't do anything to your results. If I'm feeling real good but can't handle the pace I may just drop back a bit a go the distance.

Frank

Frank,

I like the idea of a screen showing the rowers. I'll have to wait for Paul's orientation before settling on anything, but that sounds good. The library came through with the DVD of Brotherhood of the Wolf. So I have additional entertainment if necessary.

John Hart may be on-site too to give Paul and me some company. The OxBow Marathon grows.

Rick

Paul,
I plan to be there too. Not sure if I will attempt a full marathon or just a half.

John

[quote=Bayko,Mar 18 2005, 06:24 AM]
Frank,

I like the idea of a screen showing the rowers. Paul,

Assuming an 8:00EST start, does a 7:15am arrival to set up, stretch, & warmup seem reasonable? I don't want the rest of the family to awakened earlier than necessary.

Rick

Rick & John,

I will be looking for you around 7:15. Sorry that my e-mail isn't working. I tried to call Rick tonight, to confirm, but he wasn't there. Maybe it is his store number that I have.

The address again is 82 Ox Bow Road in Weston. Get off of 95 on 30 West. Turn left at the first light and cross over the Mass turnpike. Keep going about a mile until you are at the Leo J. Martin Golf course. Take a right at the golf course sign on Inverness. Go about 1/8 mile until it ends. A quick jog to the left and second mailbox on the right is my place. You will know you are in the right place if you see a 150 ton sand pile in the front yard. 781 237-8889

10:30 am should be around 40F tomorrow morning. We will probably leave the windows open to keep the basement cool for the row.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
