just a quick question regarding e-row compatibility. I'm looking at taking the plunge and buying a new Model D rower, however it seems that the new model isn't compatible with the e-row software. If this somthing that will be addressed in the near future? If not is there third party software that is compatible with both the model D and the existing online programs for the e-row application?

Hi jfizer and welcome to the forum

You can use e-row with a Model D Concept II rowing machine. You can not “Internet Race” with e-row with the model D.
To race on-line with e-row you need a Concept II PM2+ monitor. As you will be aware the Model D comes with a PM3 monitor.

To race on-line with the Model D & PM3 monitor you will need a copy of Row-Pro, you can use this for on-line and of line sessions.
You can download a trial version, which will allow you 10 free goes. To buy the software is $100 I think.

The software is very good indeed, but there are a few problems to be ironed out with regards to the on-line racing.

Go to
www.digitalrowing.com to download the trial version.

Hope this helps.

Sir Pirate

I've looked at the RowPro software, however they list "Internet racing" as being a future feature and "Multi-machine venue racing" as being not implemented or planned. I guess my main question is, what can e-row do that other applications can't?

As far as I know, C2 gave up plans to develop erow for the PM3 sometime last year. So erow development is over, and rowpro is the only real possibility.

The rowpro beta (version 1.7 beta 5) supports internet racing, and works ok, with some bugs. They claim the next version will be the official release version. Version 1.6, which must be what you looked at, does not support internet racing. As far as I can tell, there is really no reason to use 1.6, since the main/only bugs in 1.7 relate to internet racing.

Rowpro is worth the investment even if you don't do the online rowing. Right now it seems like there is a lull in online rowing, maybe out of frustration with the bugs, but there are less rows to join now then there were in the fall.

I have stayed away from internet racing for the last two weeks. I had a venue race last weekend. This week I have been racing myself using RowPro in preparation for CRASH-B this weekend. Monday, it is back to longer sessions where it is nice to have internet companionship.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

As mentioned by others, E-row is supported only by the PM2 or PM2+, which basically means the Model C. It had two advantages over the PM3 (on the Model D, or retro-fitted to the Model C): (a) E-row, which at the time was the only internet racing option; and ( venue racing, including online, which meant two or more ergometers daisychained and appearing in the same race.

The PM2 and PM2+ did not have mag cards or the programming flexibility they enable. It also can not be used for RowPro (see below).

The PM3 (basic on the Model D or retrofitted onto a Model C) does not allow either (a) e-row or ( venue racing. Instead of E-row, you have to use RowPro, which is/may become a better internet venue than E-row, depending upon your taste in graphics, etc. RowPro online is new as of Nov/Dec 2004. In general, there seem to be an increasing number of races on RowPro and a decreasing number on E-row.

Try looking at Cees Van Dok's "
www.rerow.com" for an easily accessible schedule of races on both E-row and RowPro (you have to switch servers to get RowPro). This is a nice service, as you can assess it from anywhere (i.e., you are not limited to your RowPro program).

As an aside, C2 actively encourages their clients to support RowPro.
