I have found my relay partner; he will be taking time out from protecting the good people of L.A. It is, the one, the only..................Thomas Phelan. That is if he is free and the time difference is not too great, and also.................he wakes up in time

Sir Pirate

Hey Phil,

Bad news. I just read the rules and and we are not supposed to be partners because we are both "B" rowers. "B" rowers are suppose to be partnered with "D" rowers. However, technically we can be partnered but we will get a 20-second penalty per class, whatever that means.

Thomas

Hence a penalty of 80 seconds.

Who are the rowers in each class then? We need a list of who is in what group so we can pair up.

Thomas, it's not worth taking an 80 second time fault, shall we play by the rules and each row with a group F rower?

Who wants to play with the Pirate

Sir Pirate

I am a B rower too. It sounds like we need a lot of F rowers to make this work.

Thomas, are you an A rower? You have rowed below 6:20. I don't know if it was in the proper time frame though. I have rowed under 6:20 twice, but both times were on slides - a No-No for Supercanoa events.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Hey Phil,

Let's do the math and determine then if it would be beneficial to be or not to be partnered. We are both at the fast end of the Group B section which might mean something good. And if we did take the 80 second penalty, it might be actually be better since that would make one of us a fast "F" person as opposed to someone who is rowing at the end of the "F" group.

Hi Paul. I rowed a 6:18.7 in January 2003. My best this year was at the WIRC where I rowed a 6:20.8. Thanks for the compliment that you thought I might be an "A" rower when in fact I am just "a" rower .

Oh Boy. Thomas' time and strategy look pretty daunting! From my college years, we used to call this "stacking the boat".

Any Class "E" rowers out there with a season best of 7:21?

Mark,

my season's best is 7:20.9.....

Is that good enough?

I hope to be able to do 7:15-ish, but does that that still make me Class E?

It is 6 days before my 2K race at the European. Not good for my taper off, but maybe it is good for a semi-live test of race strategy and race stress?
Guess that does make me Class E.

I will be you partner, if you and the jury are OK.

Tom
