QUOTE

Are they drehars?

ONE of my water workouts was in a quad and I used crokers. It even felt like cheating. Only because the mileage in the quad was so easy. The down-side was that it was a shorter workout than I would have done alone.

The log they have on this site has a spot for my erged meters and my water meters. My previous log book is dogeared and soggy and full of questionable math, unidentified phone numbers, missing months and third and forth workouts penciled into the margins. This is much better. So now its my rowing log. It even does all the math.

I don't really choose whether or not they put the meters into the challenge. So I am going to continue to log my 'water' meters under the 'water' section and its up to the people in charge whether to count them.

You should keep a log of your water rowing too. Even if it puts you in the company of some sweaty ergo-gods. Its not like there is a smell problem to deal with in the virtual world.

I use the funky little Deltors with the spade-like blade that are maufactured by Dreher (I believe) and marketed by Alden. I row in the open ocean, which, needless to say, can be rough & irregular. I don't think Concept2 would be offended if I observed that the hatchets, in particular, are designed to be used in placid, predictable conditions. Otherwise they get grabby at all the wrong times.

I do keep paper logs of both off-the-water and on-the-water rowing. In the former, I am meticulous about recording splits, which the on-line log doesn't provide an obvious place for. In the latter I record where I went, often to some navigational aid or other, and note the water conditions.

QUOTE

This challenge is more confusing

This is the first year for the Team Challenge, & I think C2 is still working out the kinks, at least the kinks in communicating to the participants.

Good luck with your rowing >>>-----> Kinley
I know Xeno is a big fan of slides - maybe he'll chime in here with a better description...

I'd like to try them sometime but don't want to spend the money without a trial period of some sort. I'm also not sure I'd have room since the rower is in the garage and near a post that can't be moved ... space is at a major premium here.

I love my slides. They make erging feel much more like rowing on the water and penalize you for some of the common form problems. I have found the following major differences.
- I tend to keep a higher rate on the slides, and the rate more closely matches the rate on the water for similar effort
- For very short pieces under 500 meters the slides improve my splits because I can use a higher rating.
- For anything over 500 meters I have found no difference in splits between slides and no slides. However, my wife has found slides slower than non slides. My hypothesis is that it may depend on your weight versus the weight of the erg, since on slides you move the erg and you stay stationary. Since she is lighter than the erg moving the erg is using more energy than moving only herself on a stationary erg.
- Since you stay stationary you do not get nearly as much air movement and I found I really need a fan.

By the way logged slide meters count as erg meters for C2 challenges.

Ted
I don't perspire, I SWEAT when I row! And I wondered if the additional momentum factor would have an effect on the whole process--sounds like it might somewhat, but it might be kinda fun. Geesh, makes me want to try them now....

--Jen
