500 this am in 1:23.5, which I think is a new PB by .1. Probably lost half a second or so from lifting the erg off the floor on the initial drive. I was at 41 SPM and about 1:21 until the last 150 m, when I started to hit the wall and lose form. Considering I haven't been doing sprinting, there's some reason to hope I can actually go sub 1:22 this calendar year, if not necessarily this erging year.

All of it pointing to a glorious attempt at the SLIC Bleep Test next year

This is my first post, I have borrowed a friend's concept2, had it for a week and am hooked...

My PBs are 6:51 for 2000m and 18:19 for 5000m...these are the only two distances I have done so far. I am currently suffering from a cold so I think I've got some more in me!

I read the forums for 2hrs last night and tried to apply some of the stuff in them - cut 29sec off my 2000m time in 24hrs!

31yrs old, 103kg

I hit two million last week!

I realize cumulative meters milestones don't really fit on a PB thread, since every meter takes you further than you've ever been (reminds me of a They Might Be Giants song: You're older than you've ever been, and now you're even older, and now you're even older, and now you're even older...). But I wanted to crow about it somewhere, and couldn't find a "Hey, I hit 2 mil!" thread, so here it is.

Although you are correct about it not being a PB it certainly worth noting, and receiving 'Congratulations! ' as it is a lot of erging.
Good luck with the next million.

David
In February 1974 I collapsed off an erg (one that involved cranking round a large and appallingly heavy concrete block shaped into a circular disc) and vowed never, ever again.

Proving that there is no fool like an old, overweight and unfit fool I climbed back for the first time onto an erg on 22 November 2004 and set myself what seemed impossible targets of erging 1,000,000 meters and doing a sub 7min 2k by the end of April 2005.

TONIGHT I ACHIEVED BOTH.

Now where's that bottle of champagne...

Thanks, guys! I'm certain the "fastest 2 million" defense will hold up in court.

Jamei, when you find that bubbly, consider your glass clinked.

First pb at a core distance for about 15 months so well chuffed even if it was only by 0.1/500.

60 mins gone from 15224 to 15248. Bring on Ebbesen's 18k+ . . .

Think my new years resolution of a steady hour once a week is working - I do all the steady hours strapless 10m/stroke and it was noticeable last night (strapped and free-rating) that I had loads left in my legs at the end, it was only a lack of being able to breath that stopped me going faster.

Woo hoo! I made several new PB's this weekend:
1,000m: 3:26.0 (better than 70% in rankings)
2,000m: 7:23.8 (better than 52% in rankings)
60min: 14445m (better than 49% in rankings)

I'm a 41 year old heavyweight (a little too heavyweight ) male and I started rowing around March 16, 2005. So while I won't be breaking any world records, I still feel pretty proud to have accomplished this much in about 4 weeks.

My goal is to make the top 50% in everything under a 5km row. Although it wasn't one of my goals, I missed the 60min 50% mark by 2 LOUSY METERS!!! The really sad thing is that I didn't check the rankings before I started, and I'm sure that I could have made the extra 2m if I'd known that it would put me over the edge. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try again later!

Hmm. Maybe I'll try a half marathon during the challenge....

Dave Hayden

So, I'm new to the site and have multiple new Personal Bests, due to my continued solo racing against myself.

I understand that rowing is like swimming: The best thing about being new to the sport is not only the frequency of personal bests, but the significant time loss between one's new and old times. The second best thing is every first event is a new personal best :-).

My personal bests are as follows:

4 mins: 1054;
30 mins: 7420;
60 mins: 14202;
500 M: 01:49.3
1000 M: 03:44.9
2000 M: 07:52.0
5000 M: 19:56.5
10000 M: 41:34.2
21097 M: 01:32:11.5

I suppose the most exciting news is my new personal best in the half marathon. I improved by 22 minutes from my prior attempt a few weeks ago. I have no doubt I can significantly improve upon the 1:32:11.5 time as well.

I think I'm much better suited to longer rather than shorter distances. In fact, when I review what percentile I am compared to others in the universe it's quite clear to me that the longer the race, all else being equal, the better suited I am to it.

BTW, I am a hwt 220 pounds (i.e., 100kilos, right?); 5'10" (no idea of meters conversion here).

Just thought I'd share!

See below for a sampling.
4 MINS
1054 04:00.0 3/31/2005 36 H standard first attempt at 4min

30 MINS
6404 30:00.0 4/7/2005 36 H standard
7420 30:00.0 4/5/2005 36 H standard
5296 30:00.0 3/16/2005 35 H standard First 30 min trial.

60 MINS
14202 60:00.0 3/25/2005 36 H standard 60 min record for me.

500 METERS
500 01:49.3 3/29/2005 36 H standard first 500 timed

1,000 METERS
1000 03:44.9 3/29/2005 36 H standard first 1k

2000 METERS
2000 07:52.0 4/6/2005 36 H standard
2000 10:54.6 3/16/2005 35 H standard First 2k ever rowed.
2000 08:54.2 3/16/2005 35 H standard

5,000 METERS
5000 19:56.5 3/31/2005 36 H standard second timed 5k. Just kept rowing while watching TV.
