I think almost everyone is basically saying the same thing differently which is:

1) None of us believe that PaulS has lied
2) None of us exactly now how his time should be looked at under the circumstances provided by PaulS

Really trying to get into the mind of this new sport of mine and, Finally I have begun to understand some of you on a different level. This has been more fun than wacthing kids climb a greased pole for ten dollars tacked to the top. This is just like watching teens talk crap about shine ola.
What ever! John, Doh!

Who is PaulS?

PaulS is the man behind the c-breeze, and one of the men behind ergmonitor:
http://www.ps-sport.net/
Two of the best inventions known to the modern erger.

I'm not quite sure of the point behind the whole debate here. As far as I'm concerned it is fact that Paul was timed at 5:36.8 for a 4mile row on a model A concept2 about 20years ago. I have no real idea, aside from what I've read here, how equivalent that is to a 5:36.8 for 2k on a model C / model D. Judging by the times Paul stated for other hwts and lwts in that same test, I'm pretty sure it's not far off. I've met Paul a few times over the past couple of years, and I know that he's bigger than me, stronger than me, and has better technique than me. And that's now, so 20 years ago when he was a dedicated college rower, 2 or 3 inches taller than me, 20lbs or so heavier than me, I'm sure he'd have been pulling a 2k time a fair bit faster than me. 30seconds faster? Sure, why not. As Paul said himself, there are a lot of times done out there that we don't hear about. I bet there are 10times more people in the rowing world who can row under 5:50 right now than anyone here knows about.

I met PaulS at Crash-B this year. PaulS was showing everyone ErgMonitor. As we were chatting, he sat down on the erg took what looked like a few easy strokes. He looked like he was pulling at a 2:00 pace, but the monitor was showing 1:35! I can believe that when he was much younger, and much more fit, he could have easily pulled under 6:00 for a 2K. The differences between the A and C and the monitors would make an exact time correlation difficult, but I am sure that PaulS could have pulled with the best at the time.

Regards,

Paul Flack

Now I feel puny. That must be the "arrogance" referred to. Come on man, you can't possibly have the done that. Maybe we have to adjust it for your age and weight and then divide by Wilt Chamberlain's numbers. And it will have to be verified, not in a vacuum, not jacked, not on slides, and definitely not from 20 years ago. Please, we all know that only skinny little old guys can get the chicks and row fast, so stop the madness!!!

Personally, I've only got one girl on the side, and she keeps sneaking hugs and kisses in right in front of my wife, and proclaims that she wants to marry me too! Ah, the joy of 3 year old daughters. May they always be Daddy's little girls. (FYI, we have 2 boys with a third on the way).

Your erg must have been jacked when you got the girls....or was it the slides....or maybe a high PATT.....

We better have John investigate...surely he has an explanation for this phenomenon.

Having met Paul's wife I think I can say for sure if only one of the 5:36 and "meeting the girls .... job done" were true, he'd take the later.

This might need a world wide investigation. I have a 5:47.1 and got the girl as well (1st wedding anniversary coming up in Oct). Is there a correlation??? A conspiracy?? A growing trend?? John, please clarify!!!

Dwayne
