Dwayne is 40 so that makes him class B. Your a C aren't you Paul? Andreas is 43 so he's a C also. Unless there are low numbers of entries you'd never meet in a race. Even then a handicap would be applied to Dwayne ( unless his doubles partner is much older).

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

Roland,

I'm 42, so at the top end of the B's (M2x partner is my age so pretty solid B.) , though if we make it there, my main focus would be the mixed 2x with my wife and we nudge into the C class then. That said, I'd be willing to race in any class, after all if you don't race the best, what's the point of racing at all?

We're still in the early stages of preparation, but it seems to be going pretty well, we'll have a few chances to test the waters in the spring with the local races. I'm thinking we may race the mixed boat in the M races to get some quick experience.

There isn't any handicap. So what you race is what you race. If you get in a 2x and finish 2 sec. ahead or behind, then that's your race. Whether or not it's head to head.

Dwayne

I come back to the forum after moving house, and I find five pages of drivel on the integrety of one of our best rowers.

Andreas, I have met both you and Dwayne. I find both of you similar in size, strength, determination. (And ability to kick my butt on the erg.) The time that Dwayne posted at BIRC 2002 did not reflect his ability. He pulled some ligaments in his back at the start and should have stopped. I think it was just as painful for the rest of the US team to watch Dwayne finish than it was for him to row. But, it does show Dwayne's determination to finish something that he starts. Dwayne never came across as a braggart. In fact, he was fairly quiet the entire time that we were together as a team.

I do not doubt Dwayne's times at all. To qualify for the US team requires pulling some very fast times in front of an official selected by C2. These rowing times are real and shouldn't be questioned. (I went through the process to qualify for BIRC 2002)

I, like many others, would love to witness Dwayne officially breaking the world record. (I was considering rowing early in the "bullpen" so that I could watch.) I think that Dwayne might regret some day not going the extra step to put his time in the record books by repeating his row at a "qualified regatta". He might be surprised that a cheering crowd can make him even faster. But, as strange as this may seem to some of us, there are other things in life other than racing at CRASH-B.

Dwayne and Andreas, both of you are welcome to stay at my house for CRASH-B. Last year, I enjoyed having several M40s from around the globe stay with me for the race and we all had a good time. This year, I am living a little closer to the race and have much more space for visitors.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Welcome back, Paul. This place has been a mess since you left! It will be good to have your sensible, courteous, calming influence back on the board.

MM

Paul-

I agree with Mike. Welcome back. Your comments are always welcome.

Do tell about the new set-up/house. Do you have a dedicated erg spot?

Also, if you get the chance, please comment on my question "For Slide Users Only"

Regards,

Neil
M/38/US/LW

How can anyone question Graham Benton's win in Boston?!

He was there, he won. His time was 5 51.4. He can only beat the opposition that was there?

Puzzeled

Eddie Fletcher

Maybe we ought to think about putting together a quad or a four and maybe an 8 with the folk here that are going? dennis
