There's a link somewhere on the C2 page for it. YOu send in the info they want and you get a nice heavy glass mug that says "c2 marathon" and the number of meters a marathon is, which, this is me having a blonde moment, I can't remember right now, 42195? in blue writing. It's nice. I have mine at work.

YOu can get one marathon mug a year, I think.
Hi Ducks and Everybody!
I just sent for my mug, too! I have the four Duck marathon team results proudly posted on my door here at work for everyone to see. I still can't believe how close we all were in time. Can you imagine what might have happened if we had all been rowing together? Could have been some serious competition! Oh, who am I kidding???? I was doing well just to finish!

Anyway - a big congratulations to the tired ducks in the pond! And thanks again to all the folks egging us on. Oh no - I've lost it again! There I go quacking myself up!

Ye Old Buffle

This thread has gone dormant, but after rowing my first marathon, it seemed the best place to brag.

I knocked off a marathon and finished my 2nd million meters this morning. My energy level and starting pace were not great, still recovering from my first 30k training row on Monday, but I decided not to wait til next Monday (my original plan) to free up time later. Besides, I was within sight of finishing my 2nd million.

Wore my most comfy, chafe-free gear, brought my erg out in the shade in the backyard, had a quart of dilute orange juice (1/4 juice to water) for drinks, bandaids for (one on the side of my thumb), rags for wiping up, towel incase my butt needed extra padding, pencil & paper for keeping track of time, and my watch chronometer. Took drink breaks every 30 min, stood up & stretched every 60 minutes, and got my kids outside for company. I finished in in 3:47 with breaks.

So I started feeling like lead, 2:30-2:35 for the first 40 minutes, then with some effort brought my pace down to 2:25-2:30 for the remainder of the row. I was more determined than inspired, certain I'd feel more energy if I waited a few more days but did it anyway. I was fine til the last 4000 meters. Then I realized that athletes always talk about the race being more mental than physical, so I talked myself into keeping a steady pace for the last 20 minutes, counting down by the minute.

I'm glad it's over. I enjoy the long rows up to 20k, but then it gets tedious. I'm a little stiff in the neck, a little sore in the upper back and arms, and my fingertips are tender; nothing I think will last til tomorrow. I'm proud of racking up all those meters. My reward is coming up with a new improved goal! Maybe my next million by spring 2006? Maybe faster times instead of longer?

Since most of you rowed your marathons last season (April 2005), I'm briefly enjoying my ranking as #1 in my age group while it lasts. Thanks for the inspiration!

Margaret, another duck in the row

Congratulations Margaret!!!

That was a great effort on your part! Doesn't it feel good to accomplish a goal like a marathon? Not to mention another million meter mark!

Keep up the great work!

The Buffle

Meanwhile I'll head for a relaxing hike. I like checking the rankings for inspiration to row faster...

It felt terrific meeting my mileage goal. I'll stick to shorter pieces for a while, but since the 20k felt so good and suited my on-again off-again schedule, I'll make 20ks a new monthly goal. My other goal besides general fitness, weight loss ( ), could use more attention. Ahh, to row as a lightweight...

Let's have fun in the sun!

Margaret

Wow, I am so impressed by all of you. One day I'll try a marathon. I'm afraid I'm not there yet. One day soon.

I keep hearing people talking about the rankings and where they stand. The only thing I have found is the overall meters that DIAR members have posted. Am I missing something? It seems like I am. Let me know.

Thanks!
